Yep indeed! Still wonder who is going to order an 800 seater A380!

Although I like the A380 and A330 (hate the 340 and 320), I'm still more of a Boeing girl as at least they've kept some proper controls on their planes. Still doesn't seem right that a plane should be flown with a joystick! And we all know how much we can trust computers :D

Shame there aren't more passenger orders for the 747-8 as it is a much nicer design than the 380 which just looks like a lump until they do a stretched version.

Bring on the hypersonic space planes and then I can nip back to the UK for the odd weekend!

Agreed: nothing like a few sturdy bits of string connecting the steering handles with the flappy bits!

Some of the earlier A340s (200 and 300 series) have performance issues, the 500 and 600 series are better.

Actually, I got an upclose look at a Singapore A380 once...you'd be surprised at the amount of duct tape stuck on various bits and bobs. The captain walked around and took photos of it all - then half an hour later flew the plane out! :eek:

Well the 500 is a commercial failure.

I know the 200/300 have trouble climbing but they get there in the end! :lol:

I flew business class on an SAA 600 to Johannesburg about a year ago - a fantastic flight.

Was on one of SIAs 500s to New York and I do remember that the take off roll went on and on and on and...

I guess we were carrying 18.5hrs of fuel though!

I used to think that way as well Wol. But the Airbus seem to be more reliable. I was always pro-Boeing, but Airbus are slowly winning me over. 9 out of 10 problems I come across can be reset simply by cycling a circuit breaker. Makes my job a bit boring though!!
On the downside the flight deck is a bit plasticy.
