Just a thought, but,

If I gave a step by step guide how to use an overseas proxy so that you could bypass krudds filters, would this site then get filtered?

By the sound of it, yes. Wonder if we'd get filtered for allowing criticism of the Aus Govt as well.......

Yeah, I had read about this a few days ago. This Stephen Conroy is the guy who is primarily pushing this initiative.

He is apparently "Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy". What digital economy ? Australian businesses will be rooted if they implement this.

The face of the enemy, feel free to contact him and express your concern.

How are nations like the UK and Australia producing people with these sinister ideas? Don't these people realise where these concepts have ended every time they have ever been made into policy in history?

Cool internet censorship compulsory for all Australians

http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/s...-13360,00.html

I'm very sad...

Of course they point out the reasons as being honourable. Hiding behind such noble topics as Anorexia, child pornography, race hate... But what of other topics worthy of discussion; liberty, new monetary policy, new political ideals...?

Will they censor the list of sites censored?

I hear a lot of talk about a new world order from politicians on TV lately. Is this what they mean?

How can we evolve if we cannot talk freely? Shouldn't we get a vote on this?

Do governments have a history of honesty and doing the right thing by all? Are we to trust them; is that the right thing for me to do?

Is this an attack on freedom of speech? Are we free to speak as long as it’s what they want us to speak about? Is the Internet about to be turned in to one giant issue of The Australia newspaper? Just one point of view.

I'm just shocked by this, is this ok? Is it me? ....

This has been being discussed on tech sites for a while now such as The Register

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/10...ty_no_opt_out/

Thankfully it is now getting main stream exposure now. Hopefully once people realise what is going on krudd will be forced to back down. I can't believe the things that politicians think they can force on is in the name of 'protecting' us

Can someone explain why I keep hearing about Anorexia? Why is it being mentioned alongside pornography?

Its one of the subjects mentioned but the idiots proposing this censorship - they aim to censor sites which involve "disturbing" topics such as anorexia and euthanasia. Its at that point that most people started to realise this is no campaign aganst porn, this is straight out censorship.

See the link in my post here.

The Aussie Govt. want sites that publicise anorexia placing on the banned list, just in case they lose their N° 1 place in the worlds fattest nation rankings.
You know how competitive these Aussies are

You're behind the times, Aussies aren't No 1 in the obese charts, they never were.

I've read a few different links now but still haven't seen where it's been mentioned that isn't heresay.

Will they be adding depression to the list too?

Like anorexia, it's an illness isn't it?

So you feel that child pornography should be allowed in Australia then?

C'mon Dorothy that's a knee-jerk argument - "Won't someone think of the children ?". NOTHING is lower and sicker than child pornography {I have a six year old daughter and the thought of such things makes me want to retch}. However, the wonderful nanny-knows-best-whilst-recording-everything-you-do-system will not stop people accessing it if they really want to, despite the politicians arguments. These sick people go to great lengths to hide this stuff from detection - how easy do you think it will be for such people to bypass these new restrictions ??

It will simply mean that the government will have a golden opportunity to dictate what you can and cannot access on the internet; above and beyond all laws already in place about illegal content. And if you indicate you DON'T want the content filtering on your connection, that's a nice big red flag to them also {it will still be checked and monitored just not stopped}

Oh, and it will slow down even further internet speeds which are already poor in OZ if you access ANY content anything outside Australia [i.e. 99.999% of the internet].

All in all, it won't stop child pornography in anyway shape or form and will just bugger up the speed of traffic - a lose, lose situation. The whole thing is a pathetic political attempt to portray the Government as "doing something" whilst actually doing nothing; it's all smoke and mirrors.

And before anyone asks - how do YOU protect your daughter from the nasties out there ? Simple - by talking to her even at this age and monitoring what she does. She is clever enough to write down a web site address and type it into a browser {that shocked me}. And she does know that bad people are out there also.

p.s. Child pornography is rightly illegal in Australia and will still be illegal with/without a content filter.
