I backed over ours, not a little post mounted box either, one of those big brick things they go for in OZ. Unfortunately it was the second house I have done that on, up driveway, whack, mailbox gone

Good work Vash - that looks great!

I enjoy a bit of DIY myself - I'll be casting a new chimney plinth this weekend so that I can finally get a proper pot on the chimney and use the fire this winter. It seems like quite a bit of work, but it also seems completely impossible to buy a chimney collar here

We should consider starting a DIY thread, so that us manly folk can chuff on about our various projects...

Agree totally. Call it "The Shed" maybe?

Only problem is you'll get the womenfolk coming it 'to ask if you want a cup of tea', but really to check up on what you're doing.

Or rescue you when you mess up cos you don't read instructions or don't have the skills needed

Looks good Vash. Here's one the husband made earlier from an old gas cylinder.

"Why, thank you for nagging me dear, you are quite right I should have put that washer on the other side of the metal sheet from the bolt as shown in diagram 12A"

- said no man, ever.

'This doesn't fit - they've made it wrong'; 'they must have included twice as many screws as needed'; 'the holes are in the wrong place'

Said just about everyman who doesn't have a clue how to put something together and still thinks they don't need instructions (and you know there's a reason for washers right )

No but it did feed the stove for a couple of years. The Gas company came to replace it and forgot to take it away. Good luck to them if they try and get it now.

They can have the other half. It's lying around somewhere.

Are you casting one in situ? When we replace pots we usually use a few slates cracked into strips to support the pot then just mortar flaunching to repel the water.
