I haven't had a telly for the last 10 months because we're poor innit  However, and it's a BIG HOWEVER, actually it's a BIG BOLD HOWEVER or even a BIG BOLD RED HOWEVER , we're hopefully getting one today! Depending on whether I can pick it up from the post office today, I went on saturday morning to pick it up but they were shut - boo hoo hoo!!

I don't reckon it will get watched much as I'm not sure when I get time to sit and watch it but at least I will have the option! Next challenge is to see if I can get an indoor aerial that will work otherwise it will only be for DVDs, if I ever get any

To be honest, I don't think I care if tv is crap at the moment, it's just going to be exciting having a tv! :D

I have a vague memory of Current Tonight being TV for bogans when I last caught sight of it 20 odd years ago - it's clearly just the same.

I stick to the ABC, SBS and the odd Foxtel channel and consequently never get upset by anything on TV. It's easy.

Indeed - I have zero, zero sympathy for people who complain about TV - why do they watch it in the first place?

Jad - you are 'SO' wrong in my opinion(!). There are many adverts this last 20 years in both the UK and Australia where by increasingly the man is portrayed as being dumb and or a fool and the woman fixes him up and sets him right. That trend is at least 20 years old! I remember mentioning it to a lecturer when I was doing my GCE. It's as if the industry has overcompensated. Even the macho adverts portray a man with a stupid Repco tool fixation or looking like a slob in a pub.

I totally avoid any of those reality tv shows. It would depress me to watch them.
I either watch box sets of things like Game of Thrones, or I record programmes I enjoy and watch them when I feel like it (or catch up online).
Luckily, with tv the way it is now, there is no need to flick through channels watching rubbish.
I also couldn't stand spending large parts of my life watching soaps. For people who watch corrie, Eastenders, Neighbours etc - how do you have time to do anything else? :D

My tv watching motto is anything that doesnt involve live sport is prerecord, fast forward the adverts and switch off if it pisses you off

Moron tv.

I'll tell you something I hate right now... the new Coles ad. To me, it looks like they've got a woman acting like a hyperactive simpleton ... and I'm afraid I'm supposed to find her so inspiring that I will spend all my grocery money to be like her.

Then there's Honey fricking boo boo... Georgie fricking shore... the Kardashians... current affairs stories about bras and bogans... presenters incapable of enunciation... back to back american sitcoms...

I know it's not just me.

Rise up British Expats and declare what ticks you off about moron tv?

It's just as well that they invested all that money in upgrading the broadcast system to digital so that they can air repeats of Heart to Heart, Hogans Heroes and The Brady Bunch in blurry, pixelated high definition non-HD.

If something was shit back in the 70s, how can it possibly have got any better with time?

Anyway - I do like others here suggest. My TV isn't connected to the aerial, so I don't watch any broadcast TV. I torrent what I want, and then watch it on my own terms, without it being peppered full of adverts.

I download most of the stuff I watch plus Netflix and Hulu.

It does mean that I don't have a clue about popular cultural memes like Rhonda in Bali or Fifi getting pregnant. With the latter I thought the people talking about it were referring to their dog.

Same with commercial radio. My Mrs took one of the "The Bunch" diving once. We didn't have a clue who he was but most people we told were impressed!

Who/what now?

I'm actually kinda shocked than 7,9, or 10 haven't moved upmarket and attempted to unseat ABC/SBS as the darling of those with more braincells. The scrappy fight at the shallow end of the gene pool doesn't appear to be doing any of the commercial channels any financial favours - you would have thought that at least one of them would have gone a Channel 4/BBC2 route by now. In particular, you would have thought they would have started concentrating on making what few home grown shows they do with an eye to overseas sales and co-productions.

Oh, and the show I did see once, that I really, really hated, was "the biggest loser". Hell, even the title shows the ethos - let's put fat no hopers on TV so we can laugh at them and torment them. Mawkish human interest pap as a cover for looking down on people. Hateful.

You could probably do with this number :

08 93-SAMARITANS

BTW, for those of a downloady nature, looking for good TV, there is one of the increasingly rare Jonathan Creek new episodes, now available for your delectation.

Yep. Only watch downloads and ABC, SBS. Maybe the occasional show on 7,9,10

Tend to listen to ABC Radio National in the car although I do like Hamish and Andy

Just spent the Easter weekend sick in bed so watched a lot of downloads:
The Following - 9 episodes back to back. New crime series starring Kevin Bacon and a great UK actor, James Purefoy. Totally far-fetched but very watchable
Broadchurch - New ITV crime series starring David Tennant. A bit drawn out but well made with a good storyline

I must have a look at Broadchurch - a lot of it was filmed in my home town, so I am moderately interested.

I hit the torrents last night for Game of Thrones season 3 opener, and the closing finale of The Walking Dead. I started downloading almost as soon as they were available, but still managed to catch some spoilers on Facebook :frown:

Also quite enjoying Continuum, and when that's done I'll take a look at The Americans.

Broadchurch is good - nice location too. Tennant plays the dour Scotch well

Lost interest in GOT and TWD half way through their last series but might try again

Will have a look at those other shows

Yup, the wife and I are in to The Following, great show.

Hope you are feeling better.

Eventually the old dinosaur commercial stations will go bust, you can bet the house on it.

The Mrs and I got bored with the Walking dead half way through season 2 as well, I told this to a TV addict at a wedding on Thursday and he reckoned you have to stick with it as it gets really good again.
