Melbourne Metro restrictions

Ok.. what do people think Dan has in store for metro? Back to Stage 3?
I want to see a stage 2.5 hybrid with masks and bags of common sense
I am mostly concerned about being stuck in Metro...

There will be caution for school hols.

What is the definition of stage 3?

Looks like the doctors want your freedom back.

PS. You can catch Coronavirus on public transport. Sydney has shown that. But it doesn't mean you need lockdown or to stop catching public transport. Sydney has also shown that.

Time to take the power back from the Chairman and crack on.

He is in good company with Jacinda and Anastasia.

It should be very interesting watching him try to push the State of Emergency through parliament.

PS. It got through - big majority of chairman's in parliament. Oh well get ready for continued blanket approach rather than a targeted and effective response.

Hmmm, a few urologists, psychiatrists, and surgeons weighing in via the Murdoch press. And nary an epidemiologist or infectious disease specialist among them.

Sounds like the wrong kind of specialist doctors eager to voice a political opinion in a field where they have no established expertise. They're Aussie versions of Dr. Scott Atlas, the radiologist and right-wing idealogue that Trump now prefers to Drs Fauci and Birx.

Actually it's just plain common sense idealology. A good balance between COVID requirements, all other health requirements, like cancer treatments, and economic requirements.

You would do yourself a favour if you stopped looking at it with a one trick COVID pony approach and looked a little broader for the right balance.

Its little wonder why Victoria is in such a hole. Can't wait for the Queensland tourism levy request that's coming.

So Badge. How are you travelling with the news of a stage 4 til late October lockdown at the earliest?

The longest lockdown in the world. Aiming for elimination and every country and jurisdiction who has tried that failed.

I feel for you guys in Melbourne

Don't be surprised - Belt and Roads Dan hates Australia and everything that it stands for

Dan's your Man. Ignore The Murdoch press and Sky brainwashed. Victoria has experienced a high rate. of infection and mortality.
It is not about' feeling', but getting through the hard times in order to prevent a reoccurrence at a later date.
I'm not particularly for Andrews as neither main party have much in the way of difference, but on this matter he is standing by his guns,
doing the best for Victoria.

Where do you get off on writing such nonsense?. The Fed's have been selling out Australia for decades. No concern from you noted,
when Australia considered riding rough shot on the back of the Chinese dragon to ride out the economic storms of past , nor to gain
ever growing growth or the laundering of real estate to Chinese investors, including bank loans. Impacting severely on real estate prices
and national wellbeing.
Now the Murdoch press and Sky news and Alt Right call time out , certain people wake up to the threat, long being expressed by more awake commentators.

Nothing Dan does surprises me anymore. ...... sorry let me correct that. .... to take the impossible elimination route over the livelihoods of his subjects did surprise me. I thought he would have taken a look over at Jacinda and realised that was a bad idea.

You can't eliminate - and his targets are ridiculous. Most places in the world including NSW don't have those numbers and they are not in lockdown.
Does he think we are going to bounce around from Stage 2 to 4 every few weeks? Is he going to pay the wages of the people losing their jobs - he is going to take a paycut?

I think public opinion will get to him by end October - at the 26 Oct date, or if for some reason we can't even do "Stage 3". I also expect he might even tweak or introduce common-sense exceptions and has set the initial bar.
There were tweaks in May and June.

I'm not quite sure what Dan is thinking. He has been exposed. I can forgive the hotel quarantine thing - crap happens but he has had time to beef up the contact tracing.

He will be gone at the next election. His positive legacy will be his state-building which I support.

I'm lucky Beoz - we have miles of bush to walk around in starting from our house and a beautiful tree-lined avenue to walk along and a sense we are outside with views across the hills. I feel sorry for people in suburbs knocking around in their mcmansions.

I'm not so sure:

https://www.roymorgan.com/findings/8...0-202009091315

Whether its the case for you or not, you have to remember that the Andrews govt is / was wildly popular in Victoria...despite the endless campaigning of the Herald Sun!

Also the Victorian Liberals are also batsh!t crazy...they might get away with what they are in Qld but Vics will struggle to vote for them.

As for the roadmap...I agree it's horrible. I too am perplexed. I'm onboard until the end of October, then it gets crazy (the triggers). I guess I'm triggered by the triggers! Our local strips will be decimated by this if are held to these elimination targets...some of them were bad enough before all this.

And I'm starting to get irked. The messaging is starting to get poor. All of this buck passing about whose idea curfew was. What's written in the roadmap as absolutes (MUST, NOT BEFORE) vs. what's said in the press conferences...e.g. "maybe this will happen sooner". The relabeling of Elimination as "Aggressive Suppression".

While curfew does not have a major effect...there is nothing open anyway...from a precedent point of view it's extreme.

Lastly, I don't think any of this is driven by a power grab or anything sinister. Rather, the Vic government is paralysed by the fear of doing the wrong thing...again.

I'm not too focused on what happened in hotel quarantine. We know other states had systems very similar to Vic and there is an element of bad luck involved. E.g. we know NSW uses private security, we know they've been caught sleeping on the job, we know at least two of them have become infected and gone about their business afterwards. We know inmates have absconded from quarantine in other states or just recently in NSW popped out after falsifying some documents.
