Just to make everyone aware, neither Medion UK or Medion Australia will fix laptops for various reasons when under warranty, I have a laptop which is only 3 months old and they will not fix the keyboard as it is against policy.


So Buyer Beware, I will never purchase another Medion due to their lack of product support.

Medion is the cheap and nasty obscure brand of laptop sold in ALDI supermarket isn't it. Even brands with significant market shares tries to get off on warranty repairs on their laptopsI would expect nothing less of what you experienced.

I wouldn't buy my car, TV and certainly not a laptop in a budget supermarket!

Medions are the best value laptops and desktops available today. The components inside are all the latest branded products ( Sony, Samsung and Western Digital to mention a few.....heard of them?) A 3 year return to base warranty and a 30 day Aldi no quibble return for refund policy, makes it a no brainer if you need a PC or laptop.

You talk utter tosh if your keyboard has failed and they refuse to repair it under warranty, unless you told them you've been tinkering with it.

Did you invalidate the warranty by removing and damaging the very delicate keyboard ribbon thread whilst trying to upgrade the memory by any chance?

Err...No it isn't.

The latest Medion netbook from Aldi is a rebadged MSI Wind, one of the most popular netbooks available today. Exactly the same componants inside, only with a better, higher capacity 6 cell battery, double the memory and a much bigger hard drive.

Oh, its a lot cheaper too... and the Aldi warranty's better.

Try shopping there first before slating them. ;)

i`ve been using medion computors for the last 6 yrs ( i currently have 1 notebook, 1 laptop which is 5 yrs old and two desk PC`s ) and as yet havnt had a problem excellent build quality and a dedicated medion site to boot

You obviously talk straight out of your behind, why would I tell them I have been tinkering with it. They have not even looked at the laptop, it is MEDION'S policy not to repair keyboards full stop, if you think you know better I suggest you give them a telephone call then post your apology on here.

FYI I have not touched the keyboard, it is new why would I attempt to remove it when it is under manufacturers warranty.

I have been using MEDION for years too Steve, but never again, not now I have a new computer they have not looked at and will not repair unless I pay them for their manufacturing fault.
I have never had thay problem with DELL, they send technicians out to fix their products.

It is a re badged MSI wind, but its no good even if its a solid gold daimond encrusted MSI wind if MEDION will not repair it when its new under warranty, they will not even look at it without charging.

Which country did you buy this in ?

Medion computers is a German brand, which are assembled mostly in Asia, like most Laptops. They have very little to do with Aldi, except as a retail outlet.

Reason I'm inputting is I always recommend Medion to people as they are usually high spec at a much cheaper price than most other manufacturers.

On Whirlpool I've checked out peoples reports on warranty issues with Medion and they are almost all stating good outcomes here in Australia, with pick up and replacement in some cases via couriers.

Mind you I've not found anyone reporting a keyboard issue yet.

I'd still buy Medion, although I will say I'm disappointed that if the Keyboard isnt covered that they dont make that fact very clear in their warranty blurb.

I know it's not much comfort to the OP, but you can buy a USB keyboard for circa 35 bucks.....

Seems strange not covering the Keyboard on a Laptop, I must admit.

Keyboards do sometimes go wrong on laptops, I just read this one on whirlpool...

Thanks for the advice about the usb keyboard, but I am not happy due to the fact that I contacted UK and AUS customer service and they both said they offer full warranty so therefore I purchased, now both state they will not and do not as policy repair keyboards on brand new systems.

I would and have always buy medion, but not now, never again. DELL is the answer for me, they seem to repair without question.

The reason I mentioned it is because that is what happened to me. Believing I was clever, I foolishly tried to update the laptop memory on my Medion laptop. This involved removing the keyboard panel to get to the memory banks. Careful as I was, I must have damaged the delicate ribbon cable on putting the keyboard back in. I was left with certain keys not registering on tapping. I rang Medion UK and cheekily told them the keyboard had suddenly become unresponsive with certain keys. They immediately arranged a courier to pick up the laptop at my convenience for repair. Two weeks later it was returned with a new keyboard pad and has worked fine since.
That has been my only experience with Medion service and it was all my own fault in the first place. I've bought loads of laptops and PC's from Aldi, upgrading every time. They have all worked flawlessly.

Maybe they have recently changed their policy on keyboards due to some people fiddling and stuffing.... :D
