Malaysia
Someone built lots and lots of railway and got it wrong, yours truly has been requested to go and sort it out, and being touted as THE subject matter expert I'll have you know smug smug.
Never been there before, no idea which part I'm going to, or indeed how long I'm going to be there. Anyone got any pointers?, I'm especially interested in cheap prostitutes moreso if they do ironing and washing up, oh and cooking haha. Hope to get a bit of tourist time in but maybe unlikely as I think the work load will be immense, any advice? |

If you are bought in as an SME you'll probably end up in the KL region - so not too third world. There are also built up areas down towards Singapore that act as commuter belt to Singa (much cheaper). Corruption seemed to be an issue, which might be the reason why dumb decisions have been made in the rail setup. I think they got some chinese firms in ..... I'm sure you can find some 'professional' help, but if you are looking for more domestic support I think there are quite a few Filipino, etc. live in maids. |

Cheeky fookah haha From my visits there it seems to be a 3rd world country trying to pull itself up to first world - so you get discontinuities between the two. Depending on where they dump you, you could be in one or the other. If you are bought in as an SME you'll probably end up in the KL region - so not too third world. Re: Malaysia
Alcohol is very expensive but food is very cheap. Like you can have a good India meal out for $3, but a beer to go with it is going to cost you MYR 18 - 25, so $9 - $12.
I agree with the other comments, its third world trying to pull out..the Twin Towers in K.L. are its show case and there is some great shopping there for women. I like the way that K.L. is not all high rise, there is still a fair spread of deteched and semi-detached (duplex) style houses right in the city. I haven't done much travelling out of Kuala Lumpur. My company wanted me to work there, but whilst I would have been OK, my wife only have been able to get a residency visa and no way she would have been allowed to work. That's why instead I go there every 4 weeks, but still kept living in Oz. Consider also that it is a Muslim country (but quite tolerant) and certainly corruption is still very prevalent. Like just pay off the cops if you get a speeding ticket or drunk driving. (Not that I drive there) |

Holy Jevus if I was single I'd be skint, sore, very very drunk, and grinning uncontrollably. Fantastic place, stay 3rd world, it's far better. Penang rocks

They were left with quite a good infrastructure when they got independence but it took them a few decades to realise that they had to look after it. A few other former colonies still haven't figured it out.
