Default MAKE POVERTY HISTORY - April 2nd

There's a rally in Freemantle, for MAKE POVERTY HISTORY- might be worth checking the links for others across Aussie. Sounds like a cool day out.

Where will you be on April 2?

=============================

It's hotting up for the first White Band Day for 2006 to be held on April 2.

Our goal is to influence the next Federal budget, to be released in May. In the 2006 budget, we are asking the Australian government to start delivering on the Prime Minister's promise to increase aid funding to $4 billion a year by 2010.

Where: Kings Square, Fremantle (Opposite Town Hall)

When: 1pm, Sunday the 2nd April

What: A huge rally uniting supporters of MAKE POVERTY HISTORY along with volunteers from Oxfam, World Vision, the Oaktree Foundation and other non-government, not for profit organisations.

There will be inspiring speakers, African drums, petitions and an opportunity to sign some 'aid dollars' which will be put in the aid o meter until it reaches 0.5 Gross National Index (GNI). We will then hand over our dream aid package to a lucky volunteer who wants to be the treasurer.

This is an amazing opportunity to get our message out there and build support for the MAKE POVERTY HISTORY campaign.

Start getting yourself revved up:

- Get yourself a white band if you haven’t already done so (Sold at Oxfam shops or can be ordered from www.makepovertyhistory.com.au)

- Better yet, get yourself a MAKE POVERTY HISTORY t-shirt sold at the Oxfam shops in Fremantle and Perth.

- If you haven’t already, read up on the millennium development goals, what do they mean and why are they so important.

This rally allows us all to unite together and do our part to MAKE POVERTY HISTORY!

With one month until the budget comes out, lets show the rest of Australia why increasing aid to 0.5 GNI is so important.

We challenge you to bring 5 friends along on the day.

Did you see Andrew Denton interview Bono on the ABC's Enough Rope this week?

================================================== =====

Bono's stories about how he uses his celebrity to influence powerful people like Tony Blair and George Bush were fascinating. But it was also inspiring how he described that without ordinary people being part of a movement to end extreme poverty, it won't happen.

To read the interview transcript visit http://www.abc.net.au/tv/enoughrope/...s/s1591037.htm

The exciting thing is you're already part of the movement. Here's what else you can do:

1. Tell your friends about Make Poverty History. Forward this email and ask them join the campaign at http://www.makepovertyhisotry.com.au/keepintouch.asp

2. Take your friends and family to a MPH event on April 2. Find out more at http://www.makepovertyhsitory.com.au/events.html

3. Wear your White Band. Lost it? Need one for a friend? Get yours at http://www.makepovertyhistory.com.au/getaband.html

Bono's stories are nothing more than chest thumping. The man is a complete anus and IMHO has done relatively little. Leaders might have sat and listened to him mouth off, but they promised him little and have given less.

Fully agree with making a lot of noise about it, but perleeease don't make Bono out to be some sort of latter day saint. Arrrggghhhh - sorry Larissa, got my white band, as have the rest of the family and agree with majority of the centiment but that man....

Thanks Larissa, I am going to try and be there.

While we're at it, Million Paws Walk is on in South Perth on Sunday April 30, from about 9am I think (I'll be there at 7am....)
Rest of the country is Sunday 21st May
