We are discouraging our kids from getting too used to picking them up, as they may not be able to identify which are the poisonous ones. Although neither of them are scared of spiders, we have told them not to touch one. I on the other hand will be nowhere near them at all.
Think it's probably a good idea to work on him being terrified though, just wish I was brave enough

As soon as I feel I can tell my kids that we are applying for a visa, I want to start giving them basic lessons on do's and don'ts and obviously more background info (the kids are 7 & 10)

Aw must be awful for him. I'm not scared of them as such, just can't stand the thought of them. A bit like chalk on a blackboard or ringing out wet wool, it just makes my skin crawl.

It's snakes for me - can't even look at them in books or on TV. OH is a hypnotherapist (and is taking bookings for anyone wanting to quit smoking, lose weight etc etc) and is keen to get me 'under' to stop my irrational fear. Maybe one day I'll let her - not sure what's more scary - snakes or being hypnotised by my wife :scared: :scared: :scared:

have to say it was the most excellent afternoon ever! both me and helen managed to not only sit in the same room as a bloody big spider, but we also managed to catch hold of it and i held it for ages!!!!!!!!!! jay was absolutly excellent and took us through all the different stages getting us used to evil little toy spiders first and then getting us sorted with the big hairy live spider - and everything he said was absolutly right! he really is amazing!
you know i might even go so far as to say spiders rock!!!!

i learnt all about why the huntsman looks so evil..... quite a clever design really!
looks like it's been squashed so that it lowers its centre of gravity keeping it close to the tree and helping it stay on when it's windy!
ingenious!
