In 1988 I lost my brother-in-law, two of my grandparents, my mother and some more distant relatives and family friends. My father was also terminally ill at the time. That song always reminds me of that period in my life. One of the reasons I'm glad I'm not 21 again.

Ladies, ladies, c'mon now, let's not have a fight over Mike and his Mechanics.

I can imagine Slipknot being divisive but not them.

Let us jointly give Mike Rutherford credit for having a plan to get away from Phil Collins for a bit.

I'll see your Living Years and raise you a I Want To Know What Love Is.

Ah, Dorothy's a fluffy kitten really.

PS: The song itself isn't really my cup of tea but the words are very meaningful. Thing is for those of us who still mourn the loss of loved ones and harbour seemingly irreversable regrets: we have to pick ourselves up and not look back too much and try not to repeat the mistakes with those who're still sharing our lives. I know, easier said than done but it's the best way to make amends.

I can manage to do all that, but only if I'm not forced to listen to Mike and his ****in Mechanics . . .

Oi. That's my friend you're insulting.

OP, I think way too much as it is. If you find any shite, self-indulgent middle-aged soft rock tunes to help me switch off my mind completely, please let me know.

My dad died whilst that fricking song was No 1 (granted, it was no1 for half the year) but it depressed me then and it still depresses me now. Thanks for that!

That wasn't the intended effect, if I was being nasty I'd pull out some Celine.

In the pre-Brazilian era, we had great jokes about Kate Bush
