a little update on moi
Hi Guys and Gals.
For those of you who remember me I moved to Oz (geraldton to be exact) with my ex husband who is from Gero, well things never worked out for many reasons, the main one being I never felt at home in Gero and it put a strain on our relationship.
Anyhow I have now been back in the UK for 3 years and was goin though my old favourites and this site came up so I thought I'd see who was still on here, great to see many of the old posters are here especially Pollyanna, do you still do the fireman calenders, that was my all time favourite!! and Hi to those of you who have no idea who I am, a quick search will come across many drunken ramblings.
SO a quick update on me, well I am back in my hometown of Crawley, yeah it is still a shitehole but it is home. Last March I got married (again heh heh) to my wonderful new husband I have a fantastic 8yr old stepdaughter, 3 cats and the latest addition to our family a great dane puppy called Summer who is 7 month 2day and snoring her head off next to me.
I never went back to my old career in the airlines, well I did for a week and decided that it wasn't for me I have been working voluntarily in primary school and escorting disabled children to school and back in a taxi, it is a huge change and I love it. We are also in the process of becoming foster parents which is currently on hold as we are in a court case with my stepdaughters mum in regards to access.
erm I think that is about it from me except to say, there are of course things I miss about oz in particular the seafood, beaches, seasonal food, tandeco fish coating, big bags of ice, drive through bottle shops (anyone notice the food and drink links there lol) but I am happy to be home, this is where my heart is especially as my mum has very recently been diagnosed with breast cancer with secondaries in her liver and lungs, I really do hate to think what it would have been like had I still been the other side of the world.
I'm so glad to see so many of you still enjoying your homes in Oz, I will one day be back in a camper van no doubt dragging my family round the whole country, until then, enjoy and keep following your life dreams whatever they may be.
Also a huge thank you to all of you who were there for me over my time of moving to, living in and returning from Oz.

It is brilliant that you are settled and I am so sorry to hear about your Mum, there is no pain like knowing your Mum has cancer.
You did the right thing for you at the time and it has worked out.

Hey PP, great to see your wings are still fluttering, I just looked at your facebook link and I will be in my local toy shop on the day, and in all honesty a few days between now and then setting the toys off. You are so right in what you say and that can only come from someone who really knows.

We are going to do it - my colleague and I will be going to Target in Perth at 1pm but if people cant do it at that time, any time would do - its more symbolic really.

Hi Kala great update you seem very happy with your new life
my mum also has just had breast cancer, on top of battling bowel cancer the year before, she seems to be doing very well. its so hard being so far away.
Wishing you and your mum all the best.
I always remember going into the backpackers you used to run, couldnt raise anyone so moved on...think it was before you had it though, I can see where your coming from by not feeling at home in Gero, may be different now.
Your name tag made me laugh, went to my first tupperware party the other week

And it will be the 1st of many Tupperware parties cos now all the people who went will be having parties and the system goes on and on until you have a store cupboard full of enough plastic to build a bridge to China HEH HEH
Unfortunately for mum hers was not found until it had spread to her liver, lungs and lymph nodes so she is classed as non cureable. they also spent a month trying to find her primary so lost that time but it was eventually found in her breast, she also had a tiny bowel primary but that was removed. After her 1st course of chemo she developed an alergic reastion to it and went into alaphylactic shock so can currently not have any more chemo, she has private medical so is on Evastin (not available on NHS) and they are looking into another type of chemo and she will find out if she can have that next week.
It amazes me how many people have cancer, however it also amazes mehow many people have "had" cancer and are now cured and living normal lives, just goes to show how medicine has come on.

oh I am sorry to hear that about your mum, it is awful. My mum is 84 and they never offered chemo just did a masectomy and took half her bowel, its not good at her age but got to stay positive.
I cannot believe the ammount of people here in Tassie that have cancer, seems to be very high to me.
anyway enough of the negative, the positive is you get to spend quality time with her

Hi Kala,
Sorry to hear about your mum. Fingers and everything crossed for your mum and your family. I'ts 2 years this month that I lost my mum to the dreaded 'C' she was 59!
I see you have returned to Crawley! We have just moved out here from Crawley. I know what you mean about it being a "shit hole" but It was home and we were happy their. I actually miss the place which is funny as I was glad to leave. Only been here 4 weeks so it doesn't feel like home yet. Where abouts in Crawley are you?

And yes, suddenly it seems as though heaps of people have cancer - why didnt I notice it before and why didnt I support cancer charities until my own Mum was affected.
It is the hardest of journeys and you learn things about yourself that you would never believe and couldnt anticipate, but most of all Kala, you will see just how strong you really are - and that goes for you Possums and Nu-Shooz, you find an inner strength and it blows you away.
My thoughts are with anyone who is going through this, so very very hard - on everyone involved.

Hey, Kala. Good to hear from you. Often wonder how you're getting on back in UK. Congrats on the marriage and major congrats and good luck with the fostering. Not sure I could do it. Your name and posts are often mentioned (generally by me, Poll or Bix ) when someone wants info on Geraldton although it's obviously well out of date now
Poll's got an post somewhere offering the calendars for next year - you may want to do a quick search. They do a female one now but possibly that doesn't do anything for you
