Compromise isn't required as we all know. The word is going to be redefined in Australia soon enough and good to know that dinosaur beliefs that can't be explained other than 'tradition' will not hold up progress for much longer. If there is a valid argument for creating a new word, let's hear it. All we have so far is 'because that's what I've always thought it was'. Why was the word marriage not redefined when divorce became legal? Why is it not called 'marriage-lite'?

Why should one group of people (heterosexuals) be bullied and cajoled into accepting the beliefs of another (the LGBT movement)? If the LGBT movement feel united enough to want one marriage then let them bloody well create one for themselves!
Heterosexuals don't have to accept anything. They can already get married. Homosexuals have had to accept inequality for generations in many cultures. Why do you want to continue to deny them? Why do "they" need a special name for marriage? They only thing that is different is the way they choose to have sex and the ability to procreate. The love, the commitment, the caring are just the same as what you feel. What would you feel if a child of yours were gay and could not marry his/her love and was made desperately unhappy by being treated as "other"?

Incidentally, a great many heterosexuals are happy that gay people can get married where that is finally possible. People with your views don't speak for all heterosexuals. Why should we be bullied or cajoled by you, one might ask?

There is just one word in the US now - marriage. Not gay marriage or straight marriage. Marriage.

I welcome it as long overdue.

I mean, even my 15 year old can see what's right here. He showed me this song.

The Romans and classical Greeks went to war in skirts, in a terribly butch sort of way of course. You are in good company.

You are name calling again. "dinosaur beliefs".

We don't call your love affair with Apple a "dinosaur belief", despite no valid arguments that any Apple products are superior to the rest

One's beliefs can be quite hard to change, especially if its religious or traditional (tradition - a belief passed from generation to generation)

And what has been demonstrated here, marriage as an institution is full of irony anyway so there is no right or wrong answer.

If you are taking the liberal approach to marriage that's your call and if Paulry is taking the traditional approach then that's his call.

Its a sensitive issue and no one's belief should be ridiculed.

Nope, that's not name calling. That's a mistake you made yesterday and on other posts. You should be more careful.

I'll happily discuss the same sex marriage debate and I've asked for a valid point. There isn't one. You are trolling on here by the way. Paulry can surely stuck up for himself. You're on a pointless mission to defend his point that he can't explain himself.

Its your mistake mate ........ you want to take the high and mighty left wing approach to life, appear tolerant to all, when it suits you. How about exercising that approach when people don't share your views on the world?

You are name calling again ........ "Trolling" this time.

Name calling would be calling you a troll. It would be calling Paulry a dinosaur. I did neither of those. Much like I don't see you name calling by calling my views 'lefty'. I am understanding of other people's views when they can explain them. There has been no explanation of why a marriage must be between a man and a woman other than 'that's my belief'. I could believe marriage is between a man and an elephant. It's not holding up change to the term so it doesn't matter. If a view does hold up change, it should be justified. Otherwise there is no reason to have it block equal rights.

You are name calling. You do it a lot.

Paulry isn't into Polygamy either. Does that make him a dinosaur? Surely if you are going to preach equal rights then extending this to multiple partners or elephants is a must?

Can we stop with the name calling or accusations of name calling. It's pointless and unnecessary.

Yes please stop with the accusations of name calling. Accepting someone else's view is not a problem for me. Expecting a justification for a belief that holds up change is a fair request.

So no stance on polygamy then?
