In-laws only in Aus for another 24 hours

I can go back to my normal jovial self soon after. It's been a living hell and I'm now skint. I can't make it to the airport to make sure they get on the plane but the wife will text me. I never had a blue with em cos I didn't want to cause strife with the missus, but never again, I've been a miserable snappy bugger for weeks. This has to go down as the cheapest holiday anyone's ever had in Oz, wouldn't get off their arses unless we took em somewhere, which they'd then moan about.

It has caused trouble between me and the wife, basically cos I'm off out to work essentially to support a family of 6 vice 4, and I've not had any thanks for it, which I did take issue with. I'm happy to come 3rd on the wifes list of priorities wrt the kids, but 5th cos of Shylock and his ginger missus, no effin way.

He's had trouble with prostate cancer for a couple of years, and it's now under control with medication and his count is now at it's lowest point and stable. The other night he said, in front of the wife 'IF we come back' and I'm ill, no-one knows what the future holds' which really upset the wife. I got him on his own and vented my spleen about how calculating and basically nasty I thought he was. The way I see it is if there's something wrong tell us(we're adults) or keep shtum, little hints that are purely designed to plant seeds here and there won't get you any sympathy from me.

They never wanted us to come here in the first place, and this holiday it's become obvious that nothing has changed, it seems they want their daughter back in the UK with or without me, I'm surplus to their requirements.

My apologies to anyone in here that I've been at odds with, anyone disagreeing with me kind of became my FIL, so sorry if I've been a bit bolshy.

They are 2 of the most selfish people I have ever known, and I'll be struggling to make them welcome in my house again. I'm going down the pub with some mates on Friday for some quality beer time with people that won't mysteriously run out of cash at 9 oclock

thanks for listening, i feel a little better now

Steve

They're thinking about coming back????

You obviously made the same mistake we made with my MIL mate, made too much of an effort and made them too welcome..... MIL coming again in 2011.... having told us this was a once in a lifetime trip blah blah blah... and she's bringing people with her... so I gather... from other people, on facebook... not that she's had the courtesy to tell us herself... yet...

You have my DEEPEST sympathies ....

Ah, the old emotional blackmail trick.

My mother used to say 'I'm going to end it all' (presumably top herself) until I finally told her to get on with it so we could sort the funeral out and move on.
It's terrible the emotional games people play in families isn't it!

'Shylock and his ginger missus' made me laugh Steve. You poor sod.

Enjoy your beers, drink long, drink hard and next time, tell them you'll book them a room in a hotel.
Oh, and your wife's here, with you, regardless of them. Give her a big kiss and let it all go. It's not her fault they're ****-ups.

Yeah, don't be so bloody nice to them, you only have yourself to blame :p
No seriously, I feel for you I had exactly the same with my own family too. I now have a rule when anyone comes I tell them straight away your not guests your visitors make your own cups of tea the kitchens that way. The more you live with other people the easier it gets to say what you expect from them, you shouldn't have to feel like your in the way in your own home or be last on the list when it comes to what you want to do.

Sounds like you are nearly out of the hell Steve... horrendous and nothing worse than being skint because of it. I am praying that no one visits me for atleast a year as I won't beable to support it at the moment.

I feel for your wife too. Nothing worse than having people hate your folks. Especially when it is your own husband. But the situation is what it is. They obviously don't make the effort and expect you to do all the running. Relationships, however unwanted, still have to be a 2 way street.

All the best and enjoy your beer on Friday!!

Your wife doesn't have a sister who's married to Hutch does she? He's not quite so polite about his in laws as you are but I think they must be the same people.

Your poor wife, fancy being stuck in the middle and having to stick up for them when if she's normal she's probably just as pissed off with them as you are but having to do the dutiful daughter bit.

Instead of going to the pub, I think you should take the wife out for a bloody good meal and remember that if it wasn't for the in laws from hell, you wouldn't have the woman you love. (Works for my husband anyway ;)).

Back home for the weekend recently my mother suddenly comes out with 'sure I suppose we'll never see you again, this lifetime anyway...'!!! WTF? I'm so sick of her changing her mind about being happy or not about us going that I just agreed and said 'yep, sure we'll probably never come back'. Shut her up...for now...

Apparently now she wants us to move to Scotland! I know she's just acting out and being ridiculous coz she'll miss us but she could just SAY that...

Well done Steve for lasting the duration, I agree with the suggestion to take the missus out for a nice meal, she's been on the end of all this too! I have two plans in place to stop the parents staying with us:

live in a one bedroomed flat

find someone who will lend me a brace of mangey cats when the parents are over, that'll put the mother right off

Tx

would 4 kids and two dogs and just the one cat in a one bedroom flat be of any use? I could thow in a rat a mouse and a couple of tanks full of fish to sweeten the deal

I just had my father stay with me for the last 4 weeks. I have never met such a lazy person. In that time, all he did to help out was he once peeled 4 potatoes for the evening meal and that was it.

He did nothing but moan about Australian TV (he might have a point there), he was negative on just about any subject we spoke about. I mean he didnt even like Top Gear FFS:ohmy:.

On Tuesday when it was time for him to go back to my Brother's place, I just about tipped him on the plane.:thumbsup:

It can take MONTHS to get the smell of inlaws out of the house... and none of that Oust or carpet fresh or even tee tree oil helps...

nope

surprised yer missus hasn't told you already... the ONLY way to effectively get rid of the smell is to redecorate the house from top to bottom... new carpets/flooring/fresh paint... even the curtains need doing

(she's going to love me)
