my experience tells me that yes, this is the case, very closely followed by HP then Lenovo
So I think they are fairly good at fulfilling their warranty obligations, On monitors at least, . |
Re: Laptop recommendations
Can anyone recommend a particular laptop / brand / processor / minimum spec for a laptop that will be used for video editing and photoshop work without struggling?
Thanks in advance J |

Samsung replaced and picked up my LCD Monitors (yes they both broke at different times) without a problem... within 3 days as well.

Re: Laptop recommendations
I see people praising kit that let me down and slagging of stuff that has been superb for me!! It might be fair to say there is no "best" manufacturer so just pick one that floats your boat?

They have dual power supply units, RAID 5 disk arrays, EEC memory, and are built like tanks. Bloody expensive when new, but dirt cheap on Ebay these days. If you want reliability get one of them :D:D:D |

Re: Laptop recommendations
Don't understand all this techno geeky stuff.
I bought a Toshiba last year from Domayne at Warrawong, I have not had one problem with it as it has travelled with me all over the UK. I think there was a sticker on it saying Toshiba invented laptops? I don't know how fancy pancy it is for ripping DVD's or any of that stuff, but for everyday use, Internet, music, photo's etc. it has been great. I can't remember how much I paid but it was at the cheaper end of the spectrum to be sure. AND it's good for playing games on Facebook too  |

Re: Laptop recommendations
So where would people recommend to get a good deal on a laptop in Queensland, Dick Smith, QCP, Harvey Norman? I've seen an Acer 5740 and Harvey Norman said they'd reduce it from $899 to $798 if I paid cash, are they still ripping me off? Is this a decent computer or would someone be able to recommend anything else? Budget is definitely below $1k, as much below it as is possible as the OH is buying me it for my birthday! Aint he a sweetie lol

Well the best deals to be had with Toshiba (and all the other Japanese brands) are this month as it is the end of the Japanese financial year. I would be keeping my eyes open for the Japanese brands (Sony, Fujitsu, Toshiba). Of those brands Toshiba is really the only serious laptop brand these days. If you can wait until the last week of this month there should be some pretty sweet deals around. As much as I hate Hardly Normal they do sell more Toshiba laptops than anywhere else in Aus and will have some pretty unique deals I reckon.

come to think of it, probably some good deals will be had beginning of April too. You see the vendors like Toshiba like to clear their entire warehouse by the end of the financial year and so with a week left they will do silly deals, meaning the stock actually doesn't get to the resellers or retailers until the new month. The resellers know this and also don't like to be left with a heap of stock at the end of a quarter (which March is) as it stuffs around with their COGS and this makes shareholders and big bosses unhappy. So the real cheap stuff often only hits the stores until after the end of quarter.
