Kestrel or Hawk

Can anyone tell me of either of these 2 birds are native to WA.
Yesterday afternoon a bloody huge bird landed in the garden, not two foot from my kitchen window. It sat on the garden torch (the things that you fill with citronella oil then light), and was holding a catch of a small bird.
It also had a ugly, hook like beak.
Any ideas?

Both Kestrels and Hawks are widespread throughout Australia. I doubt it was either though as both are quite small as birds of prey go [they're only 30/35cms tall]. There's at least 24 different species of birds of prey here, the largest being the Wedge Tailed Eagle that stands over 1m tall, we've driven passed them on the corrugated roads as they're feeding on road kill and they look down into the car as you pass, huge birds
What size and colour was it?

For people who live in Perth, there are a pair of Ospreys who live in a tree on the south side of The Narrows Bridge.

I've seen them loads of times. They can often be seen sitting on the lamp posts around the Mill Point Road junction of the freeway.

It's great to see them, particularly when they have a fish in their talons!

Here's a pic of one...:)

Sounds like a Peregrine Falcon to me
Very fast birds of prey they catch their food in lightning quick swoops plucking the unsuspecting bird from the sky mid flight.
I watched one take a pigeon out once, the poor pigeon just exploded in a ball of feathers.
