Just a quick drop in regarding grapes

Hi all,

I just stopped buy and had to tell all of a conversation I recently had with an Australian taxi driver.

I'd just returned from the UK and was discusing the weather like you do.
I said that the UK had very nice weather at the moment and I'd seen on the TV that British wine makers had had a bumper crop of grapes. They were very chuffed with themselves at producing 2 million bottles of wine.

The Aussie drive then said, "cor, Does the daylight saving time really make that kind of a difference?"

I kid you not. Apparently by moving the clocks you gain an extra hour of sunlight on your grapes!

 C'mon Arkon you know it causes fridges to fade and locusts to breed more prolifically so its bound to affect the grapes too

So arkon, I guess your alleged taxi driver forgot that daylight saving was introduced in NSW more than 35 years ago.

Right?

Right?

And your point is?

Seems like your saying that even though it's been in force here for ages the locals are still thick as to it's meaning.

Luckily I now get to travel to and fro from the UK many times a year and one thing it does for sure is highlight the differences. So I feel I can speak with some confidence on the subject, Australia is lacking and thats for sure.

One has to wonder why the Driver mentioned "daylight saving time" at all, unless it was in QLD.

That's funny. Bless him.

I told an Aussie that they made wine in England and he didn't believe me. :D

Funny.

Funny.

I have told many an Aussie that they get more rain, a lot more, in Sydney than London and not a one of them has believed me to begin with. :)

In mm yes but not in duration. London does not get a lot of precipitation but it does have a lot of days when you don't see the sun. People who do not live in England, and many who do, get confused between these two.

Average 'wet' days in Sydney is 138. In London it's 153.

...and no, I'm not try to claim the weather is better in London than Sydney. :)

Rainfall difference is dramatic though...

Because the taxi's clock was wrong and I asked was it correct or was I wrong. After a long haul flight it's easy to get it wrong. He mentioned the clocks had changed, then the grape conversation. Clearly he's put 2 and 2 togther and made 5.
