It's just a reaction to the "That's so beautiful" twaddle you get over here. Us Poms haven't been indoctrinated with positivity since we were in the womb, so we can only handle so much. We all come on Expats and have a bloomin good moan, better that then have a hoard of Expats going around strangling the natives. Look, you don't really know if you'll handle it until you've been here a few months. We all need a vent and this is it so tough.
BTW The lettuce may be cheap now but mine was rotten in the middle, never got that at Tescos.
BTW You can't exactly trot out the Brummie education experience as the bog standard UK one. There's a huge immigrant population, many speak English as an additional language, so there. I've just about had it with the "children shouldn't think before the age of 9" routine you get here... just waiting for the place at the private school to open up and then I can move my daughter from her crappy public school. She has made no progress whatsoever since arriving here over a year ago. Hopefully the new outcomes based education approach is just the first step in an education shake-up.
