Default Just cleared a virus.... however

Just had a virus, which cleared out all my Inet browser cache's and bookmarks, I've cleared it and figured everything was ok.

Rather than guess at the URL's I had stored, I used google to find them and then click on the URL from there.... However, even though I used the Aussie only part of google to find westpac.... I got the following as the No1 result when I typed in "westpac"

Иде ли? - Достъпът е отказан
Страница за българите навсякъде по света - коментари, мнения, разкази, пътеписи,
връзки, снимки и...
www.westpac.com.au/ - 22k

I'm a tad worried now.... should I be ?

Methinks Inet banking is not an option untill I find out why I got a russian result (after quiet a delay)....

Anyone got any advice. I've not seen this before...

Just checked to see if the link pointed to a spoofed page, doesn't appear to be...

Apologies to any russians but really, that script is just plain daft I think it's just Google being Google. It really winds me when I put in Aus sites only and I get a list full of American sites. If I wanted American I would ask for it

nope the Language setting is fine, I suspect it's more to do with Google than Westpac though.

However I'm not even game to do a Balance check today :scared:

FYI, the viris prior to me noticing this google glitch, Was Trojan horse BDD click, which apparently is a low grade virus.

It was brought in by my 7 year old son, in his endeavours to download anything to do with the Band Gorrilaz, via limewire. It's his first computer virus... Ahhhhhh Yes I know I Shouldn't do my banking where there are downloads happening via Peer to peer, I got a tad complacent.

I dont know whether to be a proud dad, or an annoyed dad lol, I've been through this virus catching stuff 3 times before with my other kids lol.

Download anti-spyware programmes - some things can mess about in registry pointing you to ruski porno-warez search sites (what you got).

ad-aware is one and I forget the other - but a quick look on www.tucows.com for ad-aware will bring up similar ones. These are free - I think the other might be called Spybot.

After a full clean with these two - if it still comes up then I would
- Download firefox or internet installer programme for a fresh install (but dont run it)
- Uninstall internet explorer
- re-run the spyware cleaner pgms (both)
- re-run full virus scan + check
- reboot
- re-install firefox or internet explorer from the one you downloaded 1st.

then if that doesnt work give up and beat the child with a stick

Edit : just use the opportunity to switch to firefox its a gazilion times nicer than Internet explorer and comes iwth built in anti-maliciousness like pop-up-blockers..

Ok so read the thread properly now (!) - do get spyware things.

I googled and got the same.

Sounds like Vestpac has been bought out by our brothers in the west.

If your at all worried your computer. Download this file

http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip

Save the result to a text file. Then start a new thread on the following fourm

http://forums.techguy.org/54-security/

Ask them nicely to analyse your file. They will tell you if there is anything malicous running.

Also definitely worth getting Ad-Aware from

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/

That will tell you if you've got any spyware running on your computer.
