Actually, I'm depressed now, when did I give up hope of a "proper" job? I think I have you know.

it's good news Monday and don't give up hope on a *proper* job as sometimes these jobs turn into something bigger once they see your worth. Its a lot easier to find a job whilst in a job mate so fingers crossed for Monday

Not a major problem, I can still do the job but slightly confusing none the less and masses more work involved. I should hear by tomorrow afternoon. Can't believe how nervous I was
hope you get good news too mate

Nightfill is a proper job. Which chain is it with?

After a few weeks, ask to get moved around departments... talk to dept heads and ask for a few more hours cos you want a career... not just a job...
You'll get picked up for more hours. If you like it, ask for a contract and they'll give you 20 hours or whatever per week.
Nightfill is generally a good way to get your foot in the door.

I didn't mean any disrespect to anyone in terms of saying nightfill isn't a proper job. Of course it is and one that needs doing, I just meant "proper" in terms of a full time permanent position in the type of work that my experience, qualifications and interests would suggest I should do. I feel bad now. I'm not a job snob by any means. Perhaps it was a case of not thinking things through before I typed.

I doubt Tiddly thought you were being a snob. You certainly didnt come across as one to me.You sound like someone that just wants to earn some cash to help at home.

No don't worry, I got what you meant and didn't think you were being snobby at all.

If you can get a dept managerial job in there, the money is very good. So are the perks.
Plus if it's a good store, they'll train you properly... well, only if it's Woolies. I can't speak for Coles.

I'm sure TP didn't mean it badly, I understand your sentiments.

If you do get the job then, as others have said, it could be useful either for expanding the hours or as a networking opportunity. The more people you know the better when job-hunting.

If you don't get it then it's just interview practice and you'll be into the swing of it more when the next one comes along.

It's all a bit of a grind but the important thing is you are getting out there and doing it

Just discovered one of the recent jobs I went for has gone to a lady who has never done anything like it before.....but knows 4 of the other staff in that part of the business.

Another case of who you know, not what you know.

Welcome to the real world Bix. Perhaps they thought her aptitude was better for the job than yours?

Getting a job you like and who like you is hard. Just keep going and the right thing will happen when it's meant to.
