I have exactly this problem - I can lose, just can't keep it off. I used to go to the gym 3 times a week and barely eat just to stay the same weight.

This is why I am sceptical about Fairwayskid's wife's program. if she can keep it off for more than 3 years, I'd give it a go as I've only managed 2 years.

Appropriate avatar for this subject btw.

The daft thing is, I am really good at dieting - I know everything about it - I just can't keep the weight off afterwards. GRRRR I used to go to the gym 3 days a week and actually put on weight.....[/QUOTE]

Yep, can relate to that! I have lost just over 1/2 a stone recently. Stopped exercising four/five days a week (losing muscle and boy, can I tell ) and came off the pill. My eating habits are much more stable though...although I do have some chocolate everyday.

I actually use to work hard exercise wise but if I got on the scales it looked bad. It was actually for the medicals that I lost the weight, don't know if I'm necessarily healthier although I'm less stressed cause there is less to fit in my day!!!

LOL - you don't need to lose weight Sparky wife. I have to book our meds and I'm scared they will query my weight. I really have to stop eating for 2 months.

Nooooooo, they won't Fly Away

I said the same thing a few months before but ahem...it was only the last month that I tried. Didn't even try that hard, but the main thing I remember doing was drinking white wine and lemonade at the weekend instead of glass after glass of red.

The reason I was worried was that my BP was getting higher over time and thought I'd try and reduce the weight, alcohol and the pill. My own body image has vastly improved as I've got older so am very happy where I am now.

Sounds like you had a good reason to cut back. Hope your BP is stable now. I am the opposite of you. I can't take the pill, I have low blood pressure and I haven't drunk a drop of alcohol since New Years eve.

My Mother and Grandmother both had an underactive thyroid and my function is low. So I am fighting an uphill battle until I pass the magic line in the sand and get the drugs to help. However, this isn't going to help my meds is it???

Sorry - I have to stop thinking about this and do something.

I think the problem is "dieting" - if you do as I did through my 20s and 30s and periodically starve yourself (at 5'7" I was regularly under 8 stone) your metabolism gets totally f'd up.

I learned the hard way but I did eventually learn, although it took me being very ill (incl. an underactive thyroid) and seeking help from a doctor that just happens to specialise in nutrition to get there. I don't GO ON a diet, I have totally CHANGED my diet, i.e., the way I eat, completely. By all means kick start it, but your diet simply the way you eat, and it's for life.

There is a UK nutritional expert called Patrick Holford; I think he talks a lot of sense. His book called The New Optimum Nutrition Bible is worth getting hold of, but his website www.patrickholford.com is a good place to start.

Am sending Karma to you, hope you get to where you need to be health wise.

A friend of mine has an underactive thyroid, know she had problems dealing with it.

When are you looking to book your meds for?

I am to on a change of diet but mine came quite unexpectedly.

I am quite big and desperately need to loose weight.

Whlie watchinf TV on Sunday night I caught the Jamie Oliver programme about what fat does to your body.

At first everything was going smoothly, talked about BMI , diseases from being overweight, good and bad foods what fat does to your body how it gets into your muscles. The guinea pigs in the studi had loads of tests done on them.

To finish of they did a post mortem on a 25 stone man all the fat in his body how it had pressed against and hidden vital organs, the huge size of his liver and heart.

Not a morsel of fattening food has passed my lips since Monday

Watch this programme if you can its a life changer

Stay away from the cereals, they are sugary and fattening. My wife was a serial cereal eater until she discovered the sugar content of some of them.

Oh my god, I love love love love love love cereal. I often miss meals and just eat cereal. its a running joke in my family as my dad is exactly the same
I would rather eat a crumpet with marmite and a bowl of cereal for my tea than anything else
however, the new me is staying well away from crumpets, those nasty nasty things and I am now choosing to eat porridge instead of things like ??????? well any bloody cereal really
I will keep you posted

Just returned from the weigh in and another 3.5 Ib off YIPPEE!! 9.5 Ib in 3 weeks!!!
So I just need to eat nothing now forever...
Slimming World is good, it just didn't suit me and my job etc; found WW better for me. It's whatever suits. Although when I did SW I did eat a lot of Chinese Fried Rice from the chippy MMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmm...
Best of luck Bec!!
