Apple just don't have the ability to do that right now..... for whatever reason.
When they knocked together the original iphone out of bits they had lying around, they made certain design decisions. That included no real multi-tasking, fixed resolution screens, ring 0 UI and an emphasis on 'gadget' rather than 'computer'. Those design decisions are what have come back to haunt them. They need a root and branch refactoring to allow them to fix the issues. However, to do so means an effective 'clean break' with the existing design - and as the iphone5 shows, they don't really want to do that. Thus fixing their problems is always put off and they fall further behind. Maybe they have a nu-iphone design waiting in the wings, fixing all the problems and giving a firm basis for the future, but it would take real guts to implement it, and they don't have anyone left with those guts. Eventually they will be forced, by failing market share and stock price, to change - but in reality its probably already too late to recover. They are going back to the historic position of 'also ran'. |

Don't disagree at all. Have you read the book Consumption Economics? I think you would enjoy it

Re: iphone 5C 5S
I've been in need of a new phone for a while, I was waiting for this new supposedly inexpensive iPhone but found that it was about the same cost as two large screen TVs. Ended up going to ALDI, their 4" Smart Phone does all that I want for $148. I can synch it with my MacBook, take pictures, send receive SMS, has GPS built in and will even make and receive phone calls. Has some other feature that I will probably not use.

Big price difference !
Wonder what GB the Nexus 5 will have? The guess is 16 & 32GB - but one of Google's Achilles heels is a liking for Cloud over physical storage. |
