..............got great neighbours who are having a pool installed next month and have given us a key to the gate to use when ever we like..............best of both worlds

Sounds like your pommaphobe will have a go at you whatever way she can:
- if you don't have a pool, then you're missing out
- if you have a pool, then you wasting water that Perth needs for drinking
- it will be dangerous for the new Anglo-Australian grandchild
- the new Anglo-Australian grandchild will miss out if you don't have a pool
etc, etc
British migrant + stuck-in-the-mud Western Australian = British migrant can't win
