I was also a bit bemused by Stephanie Rice's 'Tweet' about accepting his 'choice'. Does she seriously think it's a choice?

I didn't see her tweet, but could she have meant his choice to come out?

I just feel sad that in this day and age it's anyone's business what a person's sexuality is.

Commonwealth, serious question. In your opinion do you think it's important in this day and age for gays to publicly come out or should they be given the same right as hetros and believe their sexuality is irrelevant regardless of whether they're in the public eye or not? Do 'famous' gays owe it to the closeted to lead by example?

Obviously in an ideal world no one would give a shit one way or another but equally obviously that's unlikely to happen any time soon.

I really don't believe it is anyones business as to whether he or someone else is gay or not.I dont believe he should have done the interview.Yes,I know there was alot of money involved.Imo he has made a bigger deal of being gay by coming out the way he did.I think he should have played it down.I feel sorry for younger people having to go through this.

Totally agree but given the level of interest together with the amount of bigots there are in the world, there appears to still be an assumption (probably factual esp in many sports) that being gay is still a no no sadly. The hysteria in the US media over Michael Sam is a case in point.

Well said. Many male celebrities won't come out as it would affect their appeal to young women (their major market) and make them less bankable - Robbie Williams being a prime example

Robbie, you can't be serious?

Good to see Thorpe taking part in the Opening Ceremony of the 2014 Games - representing Oceania in carrying the flag. He also got a great reception when he was announced and he appeared on the screen.
