I'm the US for a few days and thinking Apple.
Only the Iphone is considerably cheaper here than in Oz.
Can anyone tell me what the disadvantages of buying Iphone, Ipad and MacPro in the US and using in Oz are?

The Ipad I can understand as it's so new, but Iphone?

From The Geek, who is a bit of a fanboi (queued to get the iPhone the day it went on sale in Oz, and is now on his second iPad bought in the States):

No point getting an iPhone now as there are new models coming out in June / July and some of the current models are being discontinued.

Given the exchange rate no major advantages with the iPad especially as they are available in Australia. Only potential advantage is availability, most of the stores in Australia don't have iPads available any more, so you would have to order and wait.

US Stores won't have iPads in stock but you can get put on a wait list and they will email you when available, it's worth putting yourself on a number of lists in as many stores are within reach.
