Just thought I'd pop in and say hello-we moved back to the UK gosh a year ago almost to the day. Anyway I just saw this and thought that a few of you might be interested in this? Its free and seems really worthwhile doing - hope it works..... just click on the site to help alleviate hunger
http://www.thehungersite.com/cgi-bin...jects/CTDSites
This page will also allow you to do the same for Breast cancer awareness and save the Rainforrest. Pass them on to all you friends.
P.S Some info on the site;
On the hungersite’s main page map, a different country flashes black every three point six seconds. The colour is symbolic, it signifies someone dying from hunger. Yet the website isn’t just informative, this week’s Deal is help feed the starving, at no cost to you.
There’s a special button, slap bang in the middle of the front page of each site. The hungersite emblazoned message is ‘give free food – click here.’ Do so and a cup of a staple foodstuff is then bought for someone, somewhere who is hungry.
Who’s paying for this?
The donations are sponsored by a variety of different companies each day. The sponsor’s names are prominently displayed after you’ve clicked the button. The more sponsors on any given day, the more is donated per click. Though it should be pointed out, only one click per computer per day is counted.
Is this genuine?
A scheme like this can seem a little too good to be true, however it checks out, it’s and legit. Two thirds of the food is distributed by Mercy Corps, a large US charity which provides aid in 23 countries. As this is a US based site, the other third goes to alleviate hunger within the States.
Actually the logic behind these sites is brilliant, it’s a win-win situation for the recipients of the help, internet users, and the sponsors – after all they get cost effective feel good public relations which helps promote an ethical brand.
The sponsors get relatively cheap internet advertising, compared to things such as sponsored ads on search engine Google, which run at somewhere between 4p and £30 per click depending how high you get placed. Also the demographics show a disproportionate number of affluent older women do most of the clicks, a good target for many advertisers.
Not only that but the way the site works means they are more prominently placed and get more people to click them than usual internet ads.
Happy clicking
