One of the mums from my mums group is getting married and has asked for money as a gift. How much? $50 or $100? Is $50 a bit tight?

Depends on your circumstances and how well you know her. As a rule of thumb I usually guess at the cost of food per head (you can usually do this if at a venue) and then double it.

IMHO I do not agree with asking for money as a gift but it seems to be the way of the land of late !!
On a lighter note Hebe I am actually going to Beaumoris this weekend ................Although it will be the original one on Anglesey where it will be wet and windy no doubt![Thumb Down](https://britishexpats.com/forum/images/smilies/thumbdown.gif)

Then keep the $50 or $100 in your own pocket get them a card and write something from the heart in it for them. If they are true friends and you have explained you cannot come to the reception due to funds I would hope they would not be expecting cash.

We got married before coming to oz so most people gave us money as a gift - said that we weren't expecting gifts but most people put a note in the card like £10/20 +, some people just sent a card we didnt think of anyone as mean if they didn't give or just give a little, some people stuck out as being overly generous but we never thought of anyone as mean!
given that i would think a card with a nice message in is fine or $50 is generous

Just a thought but if it's one of the mum's from the mum's group can't you join together and give a lump sum from your group???

Asking for money as a wedding present? I find that obscene
Sounds like begging. If you're not going, I'd just send a card and maybe a small present. Certainly wouldn't hand over $50
