Default how much do u need per annum

When we move to Perth next year, my wage will be around $72K per year before tax. Could this support a family of four for 2 years until my wife can get a part time job, as have 2 kids aged 4 and 3 and she wont be able to work until they commence school.

this equates to about £30k, we survive and live quite happily (Alan may say otherwise ) on approx £22K, 2 adults and 2 kids aged 9 and 10

i'm sure $72k would support your family, it all boils down to priorities! (and mortgage ) it would support ours and then some for us too!

Thanks, obviously it will boil down to priorities, but we're going for the outdoor lifestyle and all that will cost is the price of sunblock. Oh, and a few

You're just opened a can of worms mate.

We're a family of 4 on a similar salary in Brisbane getting by OK, but it's nothing flash.

Paul.

It's not a huge amount of money, you'll probably struggle a bit depending on mortgage. Property isn't cheap in Perth anymore BTW.

Assuming you will be PR, and whilst your wife isn't working, you will be entitled to family tax benefit of about $100 pw. This is based on $72k and two kids under 5.

For Information:
$72,000 is 35% higher than the quoted Australian average wage
and
£30,000 is 35% higher than the quoted UK average wage

Hence the comments about the £30,000 equivalent.

there are some people buying rentals without even viewing them, they're selling that fast, particularly between 250k and 300k...

Ouch. That's what was happening in Sydney & Brisbane in the final throws of their booms. It was interesting times

25 years ago Brisbane prices were only $2,000 more than Perth, but the gap widened to $44,000 by 2002.

But it seems Perth has now caught up and surpassed Brisbane !

What does the future hold ? Will Brisbane take off again, or will Perth drop ? or will Perth stay ahead ?
