Mr PP is on his second one, hes been in that for 1 year and 4 months, I did a weeks temping working in a recruitment agency while waiting for them to secure my current job as an administrator - so Ive been there nearly a year and four months.
It hasnt been easy at times due to certain things happening in our workplace but I cannot imagine working anywhere else or with nicer people.
So how many jobs have you had since arriving in Australia, what was the best and the worst?
Just interested to know.

Best job? Probably being your sex slave PP.
Worst job? Being DunRoamintheUK's vet. I tell you, some of the excuses I used to hear!!!!

Just over seven years and on my Fourth job
Transferred with a big IT firm and then made further moves for my benefit.
Have enjoyed all the jobs for some reason or another, current one has been for just over 18 months and have worked in Brisbane and Adelaide. Would really love to get back based in Sydney for a while but still here in Adelaide for at least another fourth months.
Husband has had two jobs, nothing in his field to start so became a new carsalesman and enjoyed himself for two years. Then back into print for the last five, been stressful though as has had presures this last year with the firm asking for people to take holidays when there is no work and then drop everyting and appear for overtime.
In real terms for us we have worked back to where we would have expected to be after four years and living with the normal hum drum of a working life now.

3 in 5 years.
Number 2 didn't really seem like a new job though as along with about 10 of my colleagues we had a bit of a mutiny and moved over en masse to a new company. Quite amusing when 80% of a team resigns on the same day and the management didn't see it coming!
Interestingly, for all 3 jobs, the interviewers / managers / decision makers have been Brits.
Current one is probably the best, nicest people & most laid back.

Two in almost Thirty years. One stint of almost 16 years at the Gas and Fuel..... That was meant to be a fill in job, whilst I found a job in my field... It's a long story but it was hard to find a job that beat working from home 3 to 4 hours a day for full time money... (circa 54,000 in todays money) as a Meter reader. The bubble burst when they were privatised.
Now almost 14 years later, I'm surprised to find myself in a job with almost the amount of longevity as the Gas and Fuel. With the Post Office... Night shift (dammit)... Sorting. Still works out just above the average weekly wage, which isnt bad considering the work.
Whilst at the GandF, I had plenty of time for Part time work... so whilst there I did... Cleaning at Coles... Data Entry.... Ran a Franchise for Be Fit Hire and worked at Club X behind the counter, which was a real eye opener, the wife finally vetoed that after 18months.

In 3 years had 3 different employers but tons of temp roles through 2 of them. First was at a recruitment agency in Adelaide as the Training and Development Coordinator where I ran the training organisation but that was 3 days a week while I went on temp roles at different hospitals for them. Second was with a migration agent here in Perth (who I would neither name nor recommend) and third was with WA Health, first as a contract reliever (doing medium term replacement jobs for people who were on leave for 3+ months) now as a permanent at RPH.
Fave of all was the 6 month contract at Graylands where I was the secretary in the rehab ward. I loved the people, both patients and staff. Loved the drive to work, the grounds, hours suited, the work. Probably one of my favourite jobs ever.

3 jobs in 5 which does not sound too many when you consider I've just started one.
Moving to Australia coincided with a step up the ladder - really in terms of years of experience - there was none of this step-back like some report, nor a struggle to get to where I left off.
First - 6 figure contract - for a specialist shop - blinding job - not really difficult, perhaps a bit hippy - rest of the team liked a drink and long lunches.
We had a duty rota for whose turn it was to buy the bottle(s).
Second - Mid-size - spoilt by lack of information transfer (language issues in 1 or 2 key people) but a great company, great sporty culture.
Learnt more in almost 4 years there than I had learned in all of Europe combined.
Third - Big corporate. Everyone switched on, no language issues. Steady as she goes.

2 in nearly 4 years
1 A multi national company that I knew of in the UK, they are rubbish there and not that much better here
Very poor management, more on the lines of, if you arsehole crawl to the top brass you will get on
For obvious reasons I only lasted 15 months![Stick Out Tongue](https://britishexpats.com/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif)
2 A great firm to work for, but is suffering a bit as it was 2 small firms that merged about 4 years ago and that can't seem to decide what way to go. Do they stay as the family run friendly business or do they go with the big firm image

I have been. I was very fortunate when we arrived that I have some skills employers want. I trained and worked as an ophthalmic technician for nearly 20 years in Canada, but my training and experience aren't recognised here - would have to go back to uni and become an orthoptist. I had been my father's secretary when he owned his own business 30+ years ago, so I learned how to type and kept it up over the years. I also have broad medical terminology knowledge, so I translated it all into becoming a medical typist when I was looking for temp roles. Ya gotta make lemonade if life hands ya lemons!

One new career.....
Arrived in Oz and temped at Police HQ for 3 months while my application went through, then started at the Police Academy as a Recruit (for the last 7 months). I graduate this Friday and start work as a cop on Monday!
