Erm, well, human excrement is a no-no - although compostable loos do exist, however, the resultant compost isn't recommended for things like salad vegetables - rather, around trees etc.

However, grey water from the washing up bowl, or bath should be fine and regular soapy water is a good spray on for flies. After all, I generally wash my veg before eating it and then there's the amount of time certain bacteria live for anyway.

Did you know that human poo is spread on the crops in England, it's called CAKE. Its the crap from the sewage works and when they get full up they dig it out dry it and sell it to the farmers. Specialist contractors spread it for them. I'm in the know due to other half works for a plant hire company that hires out equipment to do this job.

I have 2 cats and I place moth balls where I don't want them to go. In some places I use bark chip over the soil the cats hate both.

A collegue of mine admitted last night that he inadvertently ate poo while on a trip to Uruaguy last month, apparently he thought the specialist dish of cows intestines that he thought was stuffed with an unusual mix was infact cow poo as they didn't clean them out!! On the positive side, if he ever says "this tastes like s**t" he will certainly know what he is talking about

I put down Chilli powder, that seems to work until it rains.

I place them around the edges not next to the veges. You don't need heaps of. Depnding on the size of the garden. I put one at each corner, if it's bigger I put an exta moth ball in the middle. My cats don't touch the veg patch at all.

Are they your cats or neighbours cats?

Getting a dog has appeared to stop other cats coming in our garden, but only when he's out there. We have our own cats as well and I've never had a problem with them going in our own veg patch and they won't go into the neighbours as their dog is always out, but can't speak for the otherside...

A water pistol is a good deterrent - but you'd have to be there to squirt them (unless it's a cat that likes that sort of thing, one of my mum's thought it was a game )

Chilli powder might work, but one of mine (the daft one) ate a chlili He must have gobbled it as surely it wouldn't have gone into his stomach had he actually tasted it (it's the same cat that tries to eat brillo pads - we do feed him, honest!) He very swiftly started howling and sicked up half a chilli - stupid animal - you'd think you could leave stuff like that on the side and they wouldn't eat it, but I reckon he was trampled in the rush for feline brain cells...

As I said, can't speak for the otherside...

He hasn't complained so far though.

Our house backs onto a playing field, so chances are they go in the fringes of that.
