How to Make Friends?
I've been in Adelaide since August having moved here from London. My husban d has work colleagues but I work from home and I'm desperately lonely, missing my social life. Everyone in Adelaide seems to have been born here, married someone they went to school then settled in the suburbs to watch Australian Idol.
There must be intelligent, witty, 30 somethings somewhere in this town, but how do I meet them? Those with children seem to have no time and not much interest in making new friends. I've tried voluntary work of various sorts and everyone is over 65, I've also tried lots of activities (I go to three different sports clubs a week), but everyone is younger than me there and while friendly enough no-one seems to want to go for a drink afterwards when I've suggested it. What has worked for other people? I'm 34 and more into going to the theatre then out to the pub. All suggestions gratefully received! :confused: |

All suggestions gratefully received! :confused: Can not make any suggestions, but just wanted to say that it will get better with time. When we went to Adelaide, I found it really hard to make friends and did end up coming back to the UK, but a month before we came back, did make friends with a really nice person and are still in touch now. It was to late for us to unplan going back to the uk it did give me hope that after nearly a year it did get better. We did go back but to the Gold Coast and had no problems making friends at all....lots of them and can not wait to see them all again. Hope it improves for you.....wondered if there are any meets on here you could go to?? Or organise one yourself.:) LibbyX |

On the other hand if you fancy a chat over a picnic in a park or a coffee morning out etc then give me a shout and we can organise something. Adele |

Go to the pub with your husband... you may meet some friends who also want to do other things too. Get out abit during the day if work allows... be brave and start conversations with people. Failing that, have a baby :D It's much easier to meet people when you have kids!!!! |

I am working really long hours for the Trading post for the next 4 weeks - at least, I do however have a window on Friday if you can make that? :D I am already meeting Katsmagic at Starbucks 10:30am if anyone else wants to come along. I have no idea when I will be able to make another one. :unsure:
