It's all cotton (including the batting) so you can hot wash it to kill any bugs you might pick up on it if you take it to hospital ...without damaging it.

You would think that a Drs receptionist would KNOW that an appointment for 4.30 in the afternoon is written as 16:30 and not 14:30 wouldn't you?????????

Oh so VERY helpful

Been threatened with statins. LDL of 4.2

So NOT going to take them. I have a month to reduce the 6.6 overall and high LDL through diet.

Bu++er- I'd just got in some jarlsberg and English Red Leicester cheese.

So...seeing as I'm GF and can't eat spicy stuff, brassicas, onions or garlic, does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can actually eat??

Do you have heart disease in your family history ?

I dont, hence I take very little notice of my Cholesterol... It's definitely higher than 4.2 though. I've given up butter and margarine and very begrudgingly take the skin off of Chicken before I eat any.

As for spreads, I now have none or use sauce... IE: HP. Brown, Tomato, Lee and Perrins etc etc..... I've not eaten Mcdonalds for over 3 years now either.

Personally I take more notice of family history than any medical findings, unless they're extreme findings.

I wont ever take statins and would rather walk 5 ks every day than do so... Unless it's post an extreme event and I'm forced too.

As for my day.... Crap, one of the worst football days in years, what with Ange almost certainly picked to manage the Australian national team. I thank gawd my UK team are 12.5K miles away and very easy to get over.

As for Ange, now that has upset me. Maybe we should bid for Pop's

What you can actually eat?

How much does a lettuce cost in Coles this week?

Seriously, you SHOULD receive tailored dietary advice that takes into account your existing dietary requirements.

Why so against the statins? have you had them before?

Statins should be a last resort- I am only 53, I am not obese or even overweight, my BP is good, I am not diabetic and I am on HRT which offers a little protection. The only negative thing is a family history of heart disease- dad had his first heart attack at 45 and had two by-pass ops before 55. Statins can damage muscles too, and I already have muscle problems due to the MS (cramps, stiffness and sometimes weakness.) I have lowered my total cholesterol count before by cutting out cheese, butter, chocolate and red meat, so will do that again. I'll just add them to the list of things I am not allowed. I'd been eating more red meat to boost the iron as I am anemic- though only slightly now. I take 4 prescription tablets and 3 supplements that have been recommended by doctors: I don't want any more stuff. (Not counting 4 different lotions and potions for the skin.) My HDL is good at 2.0, it is just the LDL which has gone up. My cholesterol is normally about 5.4-5.8, so not too bad. My neurologist is prone to prescribing things!

Do you have siblings? What is their cardiac history like? How are their cholesterol levels?

My brother and sister are younger than me- sister is fine, low cholesterol as far as I know. My brother's went very high- over 8 at one point, but he doesn't talk about it and I have no idea whether he has to take drugs.

Sounds as though you really do need to keep a close eye on your cholesterol and lipid levels, that would seem to indicate a strong family history of heart problems, and I hope your sister is being tested regularly.

My wife has to take low dosage statins, but has no side effects, this is due to her bisng a type 2 diabetc, and with severe arthritis can do only a limited amount of exercise.

I don't mind keeping an eye on my lipids, I just don't want to take yet another drug. My sister tells me she was on statins, but took herself off them without telling the doctor (silly girl) as she was getting side effects. She has had a series of small strokes and she is only 45. I exercise- walking and swimming, as well as gardening.
