Couldnt agree more

Life is as easy or as hard as you make it

We only get one shot at life - grab it by the balls and enjoy

Not saying everything is gonna be easy - hell then it wouldn't be fun

Seriosuly - go and try - what do you have to lose?

Hi
Our thoughts on moving to Oz ?............a dream we had and at the start never thought possible wasnt sure even where to start.....first move we made was spoke to various emigration agents and then took it from there here we are now 15 weeks in Oz. 2 years after deciding that this is what we wanted to do 18 months after consulting the first agent.
Once we decided where we wanted to settle getting kids into school was no problem and they love it...
Just remember anything is possible if you put your mind to it. With out a doubt we have had thoughts of OMG what have we done ? and there were times we felt apprehensive and lonely.
Now we are here life is just great there are things we miss and missing family and friends is hard but our life is so much better.
Remember you should live today as if it was your last........if you have a dream go for it. Anything is possible we done it...............
Good luck
anne
Oh ! you asked if we would have done anything different ?...yes, come here 10 years ago........

Should post the same question in moving back to UK forum. No one in there has the rose tinted specs, might give you a different perspective.

Personally know of 4 families who've moved to Aus, 2 love it there 1 are stuck there and don't like it but can't afford to move back and 1 is now back in the UK. They moved back to UK as found not as they'd expected, thought housing was as cheap as chips and was like UK only with better weather.

If you've got realistic expectations (none of this life is what you make it kak) then you should be fine. Or if you have a massive cash pot from sale of house you should also do well . Will be tough times & you will get homesick, but if you want it enough and put enough into it I'm sure you'll do fine.

good post.
For some people things fall into place whilst for others things dont, both with positive attitudes.
I'd also say if you do migrate, dont look on it as for ever, I think that puts ALOT of pressure on, more a see how we like it.
If you can, keep your house in the UK.
Also, where you move to in Oz is v. important in my mind.
Have you a close family, close group of friends.
Why do you want to move to Oz?
The advice re: posting in the mbtuk or reading through posts is a good idea to get the other side of the coin.
Good luck

Everything fell into place really speaking. It was a struggle with some things, but it was the same in UK at times.

I didn't find anything too diificult (although i do get homesick).
Buying a car and house was easy, kids into school easy.

Best advice i can offer is don't expect paradise. You still have to pay just as many bills, tax etc....

But I can not tell you why I need to go to oz , its just a chance to go and see whatlife could be like out there. I may hate it, and regret selling up, but I just know we have to try it. So it's not realistic to believe you can take control of your own life?

We came over with realistic expectations. We had a few setbacks at first and I wouldn't say that everything 'fell into place' but before too long we met and in some cases exceeded our expectations. We made friends via work mostly and some expats from this site, who have now become very good friends. So for us, starting over wasn't too difficult.

Then we decided to travel a bit and ended up accepting a job in Darwin. So we moved 3500km and started over. Darwin has been a bit more difficult - not because we can't fit in, just because the place hasn't suited us. So in 4/5 weeks we're about to start over once again in Brisbane, though of course we already have friends there and know the place well enough not to feel like strangers

To a point life is what you make it, though you've got to be realistic enough to realise it doesn't necessarily involve working part-time for double your current salary and spending all weekend on the beach while the maid cleans the mansion.
