How do they get it ?
This might open up a can of worms, and it's not meant to be a question that starts a great angry debate and is not meant to be a ratially provactive question - it's just an observation.
Most of us here have ( or are are trying to ) jump through hoops to get our Australian Visa's. We have skills or businesses, be financially self sufficient, be healthy and under a certain age, no criminal record etc.etc.
So how do these families I see from other countries get in, no money, no skills, can't speak English, with elderly sick family members, immediately claiming benefits, more relatives arriving shortly - how do they get visas ? . I'm sure some arrive on humanitarian grounds as refugees, but what about the others ? Is there a different immigration procedure for countries out East ?
It somehow doesn't seem fair.

Might? Almost certain to!
It's a very good question. This is what I believe:
The vast majority of the refugees who do not come in through the UNHCR are economic migrants and not genuine asylum seekers. They are exploiting Australia's migration system to their own advantage. They are now being assisted by a soft socialist government that wants this to happen. It's a mess.
Ask a genuine refugee, someone who came in through the UN, what they think about boat people. You might be surprised by the answer.
