How did you decide....

Which part of oz to live in?
Was it a holiday, did you have relatives there ,was it impulse "i like the sound of that place i'm goin"
I'd be interested to know what made you chose where to live.
It certainly can't be a decision made lightly.
Over to you guy's :)

Hi all,

We have decided on Perth.

We have family living over there and have been for the last 10 years or so.

We recently returned from our best holiday ever.

Now waiting for the Visa.

Regards

Silverski

WA was too isolated, Vic and Tassie too cold, SA & NT too nothing... Left NSW and QLD... Arrived, bought car, drove Sydney to Cape Trib and back over several weeks... decided on Sydney's Northern Beaches...

We are going to Sydney in Aug. We went on hols Christmas 06 and 07 and visited Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. In different ways they are all great but for me Sydney has the beaches, Blue Mountains, Snowy Mountains etc all within weekending distance and the therefore the adventure. But we are only going on a temp visa and will not be buying a house which may count against Sydney. Came close to going to brisbane which is a really nice city

Dh got a post grad scholarship here. Then when the money ran out he joined the public service (that should be re-joined, he was in it years before) and we got stuck. His family are in Ballarat so just about far enough away!

A process of elimination following 8 weeks down under in 2003.
Hated Sydney - as hectic as London.
Melbourne was nice but decided house prices / commute distances / population were too much to allow us an easier pace of life.
Adelaide was considered as Sam has an uncle there but we decided that might be a bad thing as we needed to branch out and make our own friends.
Gold Coast (and other non-state capitals) - job searches for accountants in large companies drew a complete blank.
So then it was a close thing between Perth and Brisbane. Perth was the one place we didn't come to on our holiday but edged Brisbane for job prospects (given my cv), time zone proximity to the UK, slightly cheaper housing (at the time) and the drier rather than humid heat.

Totally the right decision in the end! We love Perth (did I say that before?;):p)

Hi, I went to see my sister in Sydney, on my 21st birthday and stayed in a house with lots of back packers, and at the time thought that this Country looks great, I want to come here.
Then I happened to work with someone who was moving to Perth, and so I thought I'd have a look there, so me and my now Wife took a Recce there, and we fell in Love, so when we got back, we started the process of getting a Visa, in the meantime, we had 2 Beautiful children, so the process took a little longer, also alot of other things happened to cement the idea.
My wife got attacked outside our Flat in Reading, while she was 7 months pregnant by 3 18year old lads, the police neither has the time, nor were they interested and as for the birth of our daughter, we were lucky we got a bed. the midwives were awful, we had 5 of them on different shifts, only 1 of them spoke English.
I know we will encounter problems in Perth, that we will complain about, they might even be similar to this,(I hope not). But the idea is, that the sun will be shining and the beach will be close by and we will be living in a 4 bedroom house.
Rose tinted glasses MAYBE! But we really enjoyed the way of life over there. we will be leaving England on June 1st.

Mr PP was offered STNI sponsorship from WA Government so it was Perth for us.

I have been to QLD before and Adelaide and so far we are enjoying Perth.

That's you & me both hon!:blink::lol:

We started off thinking of Adelaide, moved on to Bunbury & are now looking at Cairns:o I think the reasons for changing have been related to doing more research & thinking more about what we want as a family!

Just need a job & to sell the house now! Not too much to ask is it really?

Re: How did you decide....

OH has a son from a previous relationship living in Perth, so that's our reason for going there.

But when we've been looking at suburbs, or areas to live, we seem stuck on Armadale. No idea if it's a nice area or not - I guess it's better than where I'm living now (Scummy part of Peterborough) We've looked on Google Earth, we've looked at Real Estate Agencies and we always just come back to Armadale.

It's weird .. like fate almost??
