How did you celebrate your last big birthday?
Still looking for some inspiration...
So, how did you make your last big birthday a special one? What did you do... where did you go?
What made it special?

We didn't. He was out of work and we had no money. We also don't consider anything over 21 as special, it's just a number that's kind of irrelevant.

For Himself's 40th, we had a weekend away in Melbourne without the kids.
Are you spotting a theme yet?
Its my birthday this weekend - for once we'll be spending it together as a family at the pictures watching Rise of Planet of the Apes followed by a meal at Hog's Breath Cafe. I'll then have to drive home so it'll be a strangely dry affair.
The boys have bought me a bottle of wine (you have to love it when your children are old enough to go to the Bottle shop) and a cook book. The two youngest are cooking me a cake from said cook book.
Himself is currently wandering round Sydney in a daze wondering what to buy. I've suggested 'the ultimate bathtime experience' - smellies, huge fluffy towel, candles, (wine & choccies, although I shouldn't really) etc etc.
What makes a birthday special for me? Not having to do anything at all would be pretty good. The rest is just window dressing.

My birthday gift to myself was to take off to the Gold Coast for a week of R&R last October, but sod's law that it rained all week and the flooding in the area kept me prisoner in the apartment for the whole week except for a few hours!

OK, let's think.
Turned 40 not long after we arrived in Singapore. Were thinking of going to Bali but then some bastards decided to blow up a load of people (including friends' husbands and other friends of friends, so I'm not being flippant). My only request was to wake up overlooking a beach so we went to Sentosa and I woke up looking at that man-made one I've just been knocking on another thread
It was who I was with, not where I was, or what I got, that was important. Ahhhh. (What did I get? Anything? Oh yes, I remember. Blood diamonds.)
50 next year a couple of months after The Geek's 40th. Might have to plan something for those.

Went back to the UK and the day before had a gathering of my family for a lunch. On the day itself we went to London and spent the day with a friend and her children looking around the Imperial War Museum, so that Daughter could get background research on her topic, and then did a bit of shopping.

Still no luck with deciding then?
30th we went to Kenya, wish we hadn't as didn't like the place but the hotel and pool were nice.
40th as mentioned in the other thread, lunch at Circular Quay and Mardi Gras in the evening, perfect Autumn day.
OH never used to get much happening for his as it's just before Christmas but for his 40th we visited friends who were living in Cayman at the time. Great week as I got bitten by something evil and ended up at the hospital, certainly a celebration to remember! For his 50th, we had not long been in Oz and were broke (nothing much changes ) but there was a Britvics meet on that day so at least he had a few people to his party, even if he didn't know most of them!!!
Still, got 6 months to figure out mine so will be looking for suggestions here!

Mmmmm.... I'll be 39 in a couple of weeks, meaning obviously it'll be my 40'th next year (OMFG)
Just going out for a family meal this year, but next year, might throw a HUGE (reasonably posh) - (if there is such a thing ) barbie. Yeah, sounds good to me, ideal for us as there will be lots of kids too.

My husband took me to Cuba for my 21st. Was very special and I came back from the holiday pregnant so that was a really nice present
