Re: How did you all afford to move?
On a shoe string budget. We didn't have a house to sell and no savings. The credit card took a battering and we slowly got back on our feet. We were very lucky that we both got jobs within a week of arriving and we only have grown up children. It would have been extremely hard to do without those things in our favour.

Worked hard, saved up the money and threw my tax return at it for good measure.

Re: How did you all afford to move?
Ah ok mixed replys! So there is a chance we can do it then?!..i thought of the credit card route spellbound but tbh we have never used one and dont really want to start now..its not the fact that we can't pay it back as we could now but if we got there with no jobs hmm disaster strikes!
Thanks |
Re: How did you all afford to move?
I am 39 and so have just got savings accumulated over the years really. I have worked hard to get a comfortable lifestyle, I wouldn't move if it meant just getting by., so having a decent amount behind me is important factor for me.

Re: How did you all afford to move?
Hi thanks for the replys.
Neil52 there is me, dh and dd and 2 cats! We have no idea where we want to go apart from not being in the middle of nowhere. The main concern is that dh needs a job (or me but im not trained in what i do there)..so we are open to suggestions. I know you said dont go with an open mind but it's hard when we wont have the money to do a trip over first. We have a friend in brisbane other than that no one so the job is the factroing point i guess..all very hard |

We have ping-ponged between South Africa and the UK twice now, and it's very expensive sending your whole household each way, but somehow we afford it. Money should be no object when you're having fun. :)

bluekipper But cripes, there is no way I would fund my day to day living costs with a bank loan. I would not move if I needed a bank loan to do it either. |

Hi Gabyjane. Glad to see you joined here
We rent so no house to sell & have bugger all savings. Mother-in-law has paid for our flights & we need to scrap it together to ship our stuff but I'm sure we'll manage one way or another. We both know that we're going to have to take what ever jobs we can get to start with & just go from there. Alison x |
