Yeah its a good route that one. Also works well for getting to the Eastern Subs because if you take the freeway, you are kind of limited to 2 exits, both are not great in rush hour.

Thanks for all the advice everyone - it is much appreciated.

I know we won't see much with only 3 days but she wants to go and see anyway - and I don't mind a flying visit

Thanks for the info on Accor - will have a look at the weekend when I have more time

My sister isn't one to worry about distance - she's been across the US on a motorbike amongst other trips - so hopefully the trip to Alice will go okay. We can at least split the driving

Awesome - you're coming to Cairns! Wish it were for longer and we could meet for tea and cake! or coffee and a biscuit ... or fizzy pop and a muffin ... or milkshake and quiche - yuk that sounds a vile combo!

Hope you have a great visit - you'll probably do more touristy stuff in 3 days than i've done in 8 years

If you want more of an apartment thing then try the Meriton chain. They have several different ones around Sydney. My Canadian relatives used one when they came over earlier in the year, and said it was very good. I have no idea of the prices though.

Another vote for Harbourside (not Harbourview!). It's not really a hotel (no public rooms, no breakfast), more serviced apartments, but as long as you get a harbour view room, there is no better view in the world. The ferry to Circular Quay is about 100m away. We're staying there again next month. In my experience booking direct was cheaper than going via Wotif or similar.

Its definitely Harbourview, but it looks like you found another to add to the list.

North Sydney Harbourview Hotel

Here, you're not my financial adviser are you? That's very similar to the view from his office.

No, I'm not - I'm in the office building on Lavender Street - the one next to Nicole Kidman's apartment block...

Blue Steet by chance? There is a financial advisor who has that view from his board room.
