Default Hobart ?

Good morning all,

so Im thinking about taking my parents on a day trip to Hobart. BUT, is it worth it ? Is there anything nice to check out for a couple in their early sixties ? Is the harbour nice ?

It will be ex Melbourne by the way so not that far.

Would appreciate any feedback you guys might have, positive or negative.

Have an awesome day

A friend of mine who goes to Melbourne annually went to Tasmania a few years ago and he said it's the most beautiful place he's ever been and he's very well travelled. He sold it to me but time/money mean I haven't gone yet.

We went for a couple of days in June (not the best time, weather wise, although we fell lucky and had glorious sunshine although it was cold) and it really was beautiful.

I don't know if it's worth going for the day though.

We'd definitely go back for a week and hire a car, properly explore all of Tasmania.

Specifically and solely Hobart I couldn't tell you what he said because it was ages ago. I think he was probably referring to the parks, etc.

It's high on my to-do list, probably just under Kakadu but above Sydney but I'm not fussy

Lovely historical city - there are plenty of historical buildings within the city; fantastic restaurants, especially around the harbour. The summit of Mount Wellington is only about half an hours drive from the CBD and on a clear day is well worth the trip, failing that Mount Nelson is just to the south and also has some good views. Botanical Gardens is lovely too - even to a non-gardener!

Have a browse through http://www.discovertasmania.com.au/

Mate it feels like Brunswick.... But it's all walking distance to the most beautiful Countryside around. A fantastic place.

One look and I was smitten. Takes a lot for me to rave about a green vista. It's now top of my list as a retirement option. You'll love it, Guaranteed.

One sentence summation "Least plastic City in Australia"

I'll also add, it has to be the most under valued and under rated place in Aus ? Anyone agree ?

Plenty to do in Hobart for the day. If you happen to be there on a Saturday, Salamanca Markets is well worth a visit, constitution dock is also lovely to walk around and Muirs seafood restaurant is to die for. Apart from all the historic buildings, cafes and restaurants, a short drive wil take you up to Mt Wellington, where the views of the city are fantastic, the botanical gardens are lovely to wander through as well. You've also got Cadburys chocolate factory and of course Wrest Point Casino if you feel so inclined. Almost forgot to mention the new Mona museum is apparently well worth a visit too. I've not yet been, but have heard great things about it.

OMG, I remember the first time I went in there - I have never had so many free tasters in my life, and all fantastic quality. Wonderful little place
