Welcome Jen. The start of a long road.:fingerscrossed: Its all pretty self explanatory. The barbie is for gabbing about anything and everything. Immigration is.... well about immigration questions. If you post in the wrong forum, one of the mods will move it into the correct one so you are with like minded people. I mean, at which stage of the journey you are on and maybe finding siilar applicants to yourself.

Anyway, welcome, good luck and just ask.

Welcome to BE Jen.

We've got a great bunch of members here and there will always be someone around to help you out.

As Framac as already mentioned, the Barbie is for off-topic, chit-chat type of stuff, the main Australian forum is for Australian Lifestyle topics (schools, employment, culture, housing etc, etc) and the Immigration forum is for people to discuss experiences and issues related to the immigration process.

Hope the above helps. If you ever have any site related questions be sure to stop by Site Feedback and ask and we will only be too happy to help.

Sue

Welcome Jen,

I would start at http://www.immi.gov.au/ and see if your case is straight forward than do it yourself otherwise there are bunch of great migration agents here in this forum, you could use one of them.
Dont know whoes call are u waiting for...but just take initiative n go for it!! Australia is wonderful n this whole visa stuff will take some time!
All the best!

Welcome Jen, anything you need to know, just ask...it's hard to believe this time 6 months ago I didn't know where to start, and because of BE, I almost (alllllmost) feel like an expert! Or at least I like to think so! :p

Good Luck in the journey to Oz, we're all right there beside you!

I think I'm still waiting for them to phone me back too, it's been months now! lol If your case is straightforward, all u need is this forum to advise, if it's complicated then there are some fantastic agents on here who come highly recommended....George Lombard to name but one! (He's based in Sydney.)

He pops onto the forum when he gets a chance, very nice chap! Can I ask, what is your occupation and your other halves, could help in giving you some initial advice as to who would be the best person to be the main visa applicant and what not....

Your first step would be to get his skills assessed, everyone needs to do this prior to the actual visa application! At first I didn't realise this, and nearly died when I did, but as a teacher, my SA was very straightforward. I think for the likes of your OH's occupation vetassess might be the people who assess him, but don't quote me on that. A lot of the 'tradies' as they like to call them in Oz are required to do a practical as part of their skills assessment, not sure if tiler is included amongst that. Also you'd be best to check to see which of the states are sponsoring tilers, as State Sponsorship tends to be the quickest route @ the moment, or the Critical Skills List, but most of the tradies were removed from this list on the 16th March. If you're sponsored by a state you are obliged to live and work in that state for the first two years, then you are free to move elsewhere. That's a 176 visa, the 175 is an independent skilled migration visa, but is @ the bottom of the priority processing list, I should know, as that's the category us poor Primary School Teachers fall under....so I've a long wait ahead of me!

OOPS, I might be wrong, tiler might still be on the CSL. Here's some threads that might prove useful starting points for you both:

Not a problem, any time, I've a lot of time on my hands for the next two months as the academic year ended this week in Northern Ireland, it's a hard life being a teacher! :p Having looked @ a wee snippet on one of those threads it seems you need to get ur SA done by the TRA or something. Also, it might be important, does your OH have any formal qualifications for his trade?

What I would do is contact some of the people directly, on those threads, by PM, the ones that still seem to be active on the site, and ask their advice, as they'll have already gone through the process of having their skills assessed etc.

[ i havent worked for 3 yrs as am a housewife to my two children.

What you mean is that you haven't been in paid employment for 3 years - as a housewife and mother to 2 I'm sure you've done plenty of work.... unfortunately such important skills are not recognised on the skills list:)
