Hello from Perth.

Hi there.

Im not an expat, never been to the UK.
Stumbled upon this site while googling for some information on "earthquakes" in Perth and laughed so hard I just kept coming back.

Ive noticed a lot of English (I WONT say POMS) moving into Perth and the beach suburbs in the past few years... so your to blame for the cost of houses going so high.. Eh?

I live in the Swan Valley, near Perth. If anyone has questions they would like answers to, I would be happy to try. Coming from Canada and having lived here for 30 years I think I can look at things through a visitors eyes, IYKWIM.

Aw c'mon, it's a Front Loader every time ... for water-saving reasons?

Anyway, it's the vacuum cleaner decision that is the bugger. Dyson, Meile ... still haven't decided ...

Hello Catherine, by the way, and welcome.

Whats a toploader & a front loader ? We dont have that much sand.
Oh you mean washing machines? I use a twin tub myself and then put it through the mangle to squeeze out the last drop.
And my carpet sweeper gets all the mess out of the house fine.

Thanks for the welcome...

Hi Catherine
Sorry about the price hikes but hey, then you wouldn't be able to read so many debates about perth being the most expensive city in the world ;)

Thats right, expensive, boring, too much sand...
and dont forget the price of petrol at the moment.
So why do so many come here?

Actually its not expensive, because as a family on one modest income, we can afford a mortgage, private schools for the kids and still manage to eat. We may not have the newest car - but its paid for and runs well.
I think the fact that the weather is great, the people are friendly and you can have a pretty good lifestyle here is what most people are looking for.

I would go for the Dyson myself.... lol

Hi Catherine,
Welcome to the site :)
I'm in the Swan valley too (Ellenbrook - Morgan Fields) - lovely isn't it?
How long have you lived there?
We've been here for 2 years now.

Looks like he would just eat you for breakfast! lol

Hi Tracey (nightnurse2).
Im a bit further up than you in Lower Chittering, but the kids go to school near you. Its nice up this way... now that the roadworks are done...
Weve lived here for 8 years, 1 year in Atwell then 8 in Adelaide (Gees wasnt THAT fun!) and then the previous 14 years in Perth again.
Where are you from?

We're from Manchester in the UK.

Re: Hello from Perth.

Well I certainly enjoy it in the winter. The summer is a bit harsh, but I guess if we had the house finished with something around it other than yellow sand ... a few chairs & shade it would be much more bareable.
I love having the fire going in the winter and all the green
around us.

My mum was from the UK and my dad from Scotland.
