Hayfever

Different for me this year. Gone is most of the Asthma thank gawd.... although that was fairly easy to treat. This time around it's got me in the Eyes... they are obviously itchy, but they also get a film over the buggers which makes it damn hard to see, and almost impossible to work properly. Hence a couple of days sick whilst I try different meds to "sort it"

I've tried Telfast... Zyrtec... Claratyne.... Borrowed/pinched some of that new one (xy-somethingor other) Telfast is working the best, but still getting the eyefilm. Also using antihistamine eye drops, which is working to a small degree.

The only really effective thing seems to be Polaramine, which knocks you out, and is no good for nightshift at all.

Anyone know of a non drowsy drug, that will fix my Eyes ? Stop 'erm filming over so I can actually read mail fast without having to blink like crazy every minute or so ?

I can't believe that this is stopping me doing my work, more than the Asthma did.

Hows your Hayfever going this year, supposedly this is the worst year in the 30 years I've been here.

Mine's not too bad this year, which surprises me (so far.....) I can only take Polaramine, its the only one which doesn't make me drowsy - very odd. Have you tried both strengths, I think they are 2mg or 6mg. The 2mg one isn't "supposed" to make you drowsy.
Or get your daughter or someone in the UK to post you some differnt ones from there - I used to swear by Piriton, which is the closest to Polarmine that I've found?

Thanks Polly I may just have to do that. This eye thing is probably the most stupid thing that's ever stopped me working. Must have been the 6mg Polarmine that I've been taking.

Almost embarrassing.

If you get it bad its no picnic I know. Have a go with the 2mg Polaramine, may still make you sleepy but certainly worth investigating which ones you had, and get her to post you a few to try. You might also be getting immune to some here and a different brand might shock your system a bit :)

Re: Hayfever

Rhinocort nasal spray $13.99 for a 120 dose bottle.

Co-incidence, but my wife just rang me, asking me to grab some while I am at the shops.

Hayfever affects her eyes also.

Sleep with two cold wet flannels on your eyes as well as taking Polarmine at bedtime. There's also a cream called fucithelmic that's quite good for clearing your eyes up if you're rubbing them so hard that they're getting a little infected.

My daughter (who's never had hayfever before) has been really suffering this year, mainly with itchy eyes, ears, throat. We tried all sorts of antihistamines but nothing helped enough. She's now got a prescription nasal spray and we're using that as well as the daily antihistamine which seems to be keeping it under control.

Maybe you might need to try a prescription nasal spray or something from the doctor?

Hope that helps a bit.

:)

My eyes are really bad this year too, they go really blurry as well as the itch. This is only my second season here after not having hayfever for some years in Asia, but I seem to be suffering more than I did last year.

I use Rhinocort spray too.
