HAWKE

It's looking like a really good TV movie with an interesting cast. Don't know much about Hawke's work or his legacy but he clearly was an engaging man. Got an biography but haven't read it yet.

Anyone got high hopes for it?

I think it looks worth a watch...it's an era of Aussie politics a lot of people seem to talk about but I guess many of us on here know little about.

Can't help but think any discussion about it on BE will be dominated by the usual political dogma that seems de rigueur at the moment!

haven't heard about it.....should be interesting....he was a very passionate, intelligent man but also had some challenges in his personality to deal with, like us all, so should be good....

There's been some quite good trailers for it.

I did start his biography and he seems a very complicated man.

This was the man who cried on TV and was much loved - older Australians get quite dewy-eyed when they remember.

He still holds the yard of ale record in the bar at his Alma Mater - UWA, where I work. Legend!

The words Aussie and Drama strike the fear of dread in me and the trailer does not pursuade me otherwise.

Having said that from what little of know of His Bobness I do like his style ... I see what Mr Mover says about being too Aussie but that is very appealing in the days of polish and spin.

Fer foks sake, is it so bad to be Real these days?

Probably wont be watching it but having seen the trailers just reinforces what a superb actor Richard Roxburgh is - he has the voice and the mannerisms down pat. If there is outstanding Australian drama, chances are that Richard will be in it!

Must admit that Hawke was the last Labor pollie I ever voted for and there was quite a sense of community elation when he booted Fraser.

Re: HAWKE

He was Our Local MP, that we hardly ever saw. It meant that money and infrastructure poured into this area. Quite liked him. When you look at him and Paul Keating, Imagine what those Two could have done together in British Politics, just on their personas.

To think that PK eventually eclipsed him, shows how powerful the pair of them were.

I personally Think P Keating is the greatest most intelligent Parliamentarian performer that I've ever seen. I wonder how much of that will come across.... I'm talking besides political colours.

What an Era, and how colorful was it
