Default having doubts- help!!!

Hi there - we are currently planning to move to melbourne - my husband has been offered a job and they are going to apply for a 121 permanent visa for us, but as the days go by we are having more and more doubts.... think we'd need to let them know now if we changed our mind before they gfo to far with the process -
the main reasons we are having doubts are the thought of leaving family and friends (we don't live really near them now but could potentially move) and the financial side of things - my husband would be stepping off his career track a bit and getting less money, and with exchange rates being so low and interest rates being so high for mortgages we are getting worried that we would struggle financially and that there would be very few options for work for my husband as what he does is very specialised.....

on the other hand we love the idea of another adventure and of course we could come back but the cost of the move and damage to career could make that tricky........ but we don't want to regret not going...

anyone been in a similiar situation and decided either way? is it true that the cost of living would be the same as in the uk?
ant advice or opinions would be appreciated!

Only a personal take on things, but do you have children to think about?

If so, then in your circumstances I wouldn't do it, especially if as you say, financially the future might not be secure for you.

But if it's just yourself & OH......

THEN DO IT - YOU ONLY EVER REGRET THE THINGS YOU DON'T DO, EVERYTHING ELSE YOU LEARN FROM

yes we have 4 little kids and are torn between thinking the quality of life in terms of external things like weather would be better in australia, and between thinking the quality of life for them in terms of having family around them would be better here.....if it was just the two of us we would do it but its so much more to risk..... but then again if you never take risks....
really confused but don't want to muck employer around...

I know how you feel, we've just been granted our visa, OH over the moon, i cried for 3 days i was devistated. 2 weeks later and a hell of a lot of soul searching done, i figure you only live once. We're in a similar situation, hubby will have to take a wage cut, we'll loose my income, we have the nice house which is gonna have to go.

The thing i really don't want to do is sit when i'm 60 and think "i wish i'd tried it". Worst case senario is we hate, come back and buy a smaller house. Still not really happy about going, but i'll give it a try.

hi, we have just come back from a validation trip and yes we did come back with some doubts.
financially we know we will have to get a bigger mortgage and the cost of living is higher, but we only live once and we are hopefully going to melbourne in june
we have two kids (boy aged 7, girl aged 9 ) and they are looking forward to the move, they both love the outdoors and love sports and are looking forward to the lifestyle that aus has to offer, and that is what we are moving for the different lifestyle and the oppotunities that australia can offer us all as a family.
things are only as hard as you make them and if you are determined and strong the world is your oyster
