This has got to hurt

England near Scots level

FORMER manager Graham Taylor believes England are "in danger of going down the same road as Scotland" in becoming a second-rate international side.

Taylor blames the influx of foreign players into the Premiership for England's decline, with victory essential in Estonia tomorrow night if they are to have any chance of qualifying for Euro 2008.

Taylor said: "We're a quarter-final team, not a genuine world force. We're in danger of going down the same road as Scotland and becoming a second division team in world football - and I mean no disrespect to Scotland by that."

England will be fine if the press stops making out the next Pele is found everytime we get a young kid who can kick a ball. ie Theo Walcott ! Wayne Rooney etc It puts too much pressure on them.

I would say Taylor has got it right and the influx of foreign players is not helping the national side.

Clubs in Scotland started about 4 years ago maybe less to look at rearing there own and this was driven out by the cost of players from other countries including England and the lack of money coming into the game in Scotland.
I think now is the best crop of youngsters we have seen in a long while coming through to the national level.
This is the first time in years that the majority of players playing for Celtic and Rangers are Scottish and we are competing at the highest level in Europe ( last 16 of Champs league )
