Ah bless, throw in a joke with an aussie accent and the word sheila and a certain type of English person can't control their mirth

nor can I.

However Australian's don't seem to like it when something could be interpreted as being in any way derogatory to them, and subsequently overreact. It aggravates the shoulder chip.

what would have been tremendous is if he said "I cant quite do the accent but -" and then proceeded to do a thick Welsh coal mining village accent instead

No not Australians - desperate journalists with nothing else to cover and will make a mountain out of a molehill. I don't think the average aussie would have batted an eyelid at this.

I'll be amazed if it caused anything more than a benevolent rolling of eyes. The journalists are really scraping the bottom of the barrel on this one.

That link was to the BBC site, I don't think any Aussies are whingeing. This thread is a beatup.

Given we are marching hand-in-hand across various dusty bits of the planet to kill people I think there are more important things to give a toss about.

Indeed
You would think the Australians would be too busy bending over for the president to worry about this

OK, fair enough. I just watched the video but didn't see what the fuss was about. It was a pretty good Aussie accent IMO.

They are doing that too, I had the misfortune to catch the news last night and some of the fawning was pitiful.

yes Australians. they believe this sort of stuff and lap this shit up. It may start with the media but its quickly passed on to the attitudes of the populus and it just aggrevates the shoulder chip some more.

I concur. Based on the reactions of the aussie journalist, there should have been riots in the streets over Keanu Reeves English accent in Dracula. now that was a bad accent. And there were riots...but I think that was about something else.
