My dad used to have loads of guitars (he may still have lol). The one I remember the biggest fuss about was his Martin - he had to have it shipped over or something, it was quite a few years ago.

For me Chet Atkins, Bo Diddley and Elvis Presley can't be wrong they played Gretsch guitars one of the finest sounding guitars ever made ;)
Many years ago I bought one from a pawn brokers with an old valve amp and swore I'd learn to play it, the day I swapped it for a B.S.A Bantam was the only time my folks were happy with me owning a bike ;)

Strings.... look no further than Dean Markley's Blue Steel.
http://www.deanmarkley.com/images/St...eSteelAcSm.jpg

Blue Steel strings are cryogenically treated to give them a longer life, great tone and the ability to stay in tune better than other strings. DM does Blue Steel strings for Acoustics, Electrics, Bass' and have nickel plated ones for bass guitars as well

Hi Ryan,

I have a Mexican Fender Stratocaster (Tobacco Sunburst) which I love and a Gordon Smith (Natural Flamed Maple) which I love even more. I brought the Fender over first and the GS earlier this year when I went back to the UK and visited my folks. I have Singapore Airlines to thank for delivering them without a hitch :)

Gordon Smith makes hand-crafted guitars near Manchester (UK), my model is the Graduate which is a quality Les Paul Standard copy ... solid body (heavy), glued-neck, dual tappable humbuckers, solid bridge.

I was originally in the market (about 14 years ago now) for a second-hand Les Paul Standard having sold some of my Queen memorabilia (had 650 quid as a budget) but I played the GS and immediately loved it.

Both complement each other and are completely different to play. The GS is ideal as a riff-monster (short-scale neck, low action, powerful pick-ups) and the Fender is a jack of all trades and great for (very approximate) Hendrixisms.

I play both through my PC and am currently favouring Fruityloops Studio and Native Instruments Guitar Rig using a Kenton Control Freak MIDI controller and a volume pedal for wah-wah and other weird effects.

I can recommend Band-In-Box (for jamming) and Guitar Pro (for learning tab) as useful tools too if you have a half-decent PC.

The indie/rock scene is good here, should you make it there is no shortage of good bands to see.

Cheers,
Matt

You forgot Ibanez!! Hubby has 2 of them, an Epiphone, and an accoustic something or other. He got rid of the strat before we came here, found it too boring compared to Ibanez,

I think the OP answered their own question by putting the best one at the top :)

Edit - although you missed off Rickenbacker which IMO gives a fantastic sound. :)

Except they only stay in tune for about 5 minutes.

Fender Telecaster is my choice. Just got one, took me ages to get one here in OZ (needed a lefty!).
