Not sure what the licensing laws are in NSW or VIC for employment in bottle shops nowadays.

Guaranteed it has changed a lot. Far more control from the govt.

The competiton is crazy even for these jobs, I sent him on a Senior first aid course yesterday, thinking that shows responsibility etc.

The entire front wall of the training centre is covered in short courses they can do, from bar training to coffee serving, to resume advice, all the courses around $130 - $260 a pop a right little industry. Courses are around 4 - 6 hours. Highly profitable.

I am dragging him off for a haricut today, bought the dress trouser and white shirt and tie for the interview. I am almost amused at what they want , I knew it was bad, when eldest son wanted to be an electrician the testing and interview process was 4 MONTHS!! But shop work???

Thanks for the tips especially from those who have done these interviews. Were now off to work out what animal he is? thats supposed to be one of the questions and tells them a lot about you.

Kids suggested I was an elephant partner took that as fat!!!! kids said no, kind and caring a great mum so all that shows is different things to different people.

It's a bit overkill for a job that in reality any simpleton can do and doesn't actually require any qualifications.

These interview processes are more about control than anything else. They are looking for the most compliant people.

Director level positions with multi-nationals don't even have such a rigorous recruitment process.

It does sound really OTT.

I was amazed to be asked to take some psychometric tests during my interview process recently. Not had to do that since I was a recent graduate 18 years ago in UK!

Psychometric tests are pop-science. Nothing more than a money making industry.

I agree. I would steer my kids away from these jobs.

Infact if they were really young I would prefer to pay them to maintain the house and yard.

Welcome to Australia! The place where you need a Masters degree to get a job as a sandwich maker.

You would be steering them away from most of the places teens work then, most of the 'biggies' do similar interviews.

All the boys have done the house, yard, even building site work, but working for the parents probably wont help on the resume later on

Quite funny, Friday night we passed the shop in question, took son in so we could all see what kids his age were doing, one was on trolley roundup, one was unpacking some boxes, real rocket science stuff you have to laugh really what else can you do

Sure...what helps on resumes is clubs, sports and little jobs and signs of enterprise that show you're not a f***wit. Most people head to retail - there are other things too.

Maybe they are after obedient slaves and the process is to eliminate the renegades. Interviews are two way.
