We are due to get a quote tomorrow to give us a better idea of cost. We definitely need to upsize but didn't know whether to buy a house with more rooms or add on to our existing house. I mean how much value will it add to the house?
Its purpose would be for those overseas visitors that come and stay, including my mum who often stays for a couple of months. We are also considering an au pair, so it may come in handy for that too.

Would love to hear others advice on this?
Many thanks

Never understimate, just how much of a massive disruption to your life, having an extention added to you home is. The stress of still living in a place, while half of it gets ripped to bits, is enormous. Been there, done that, NEVER again.

Personally, I'd move to a bigger place.

We added a granny flat many years ago and it has been a huge benefit to us. We live in a weatherboard with tin roof so the Skyline prefab granny flat we bought was just perfect for the "useless" bit of garden we had (on quarter acre so plenty of room). My parents lived in it for 6 months of every year for 15 years and latterly the kids have been living in it although it is a self contained one bedder and now my daughter in law's brother is looking after it while we are away. In the interim it was great for visitors to have their own space.
