I had both my boys baptized when they were tiny, and quite clearly recall the 'proud' godparents standing around the font making their 'promises; to both the child and to god.
Now I know you may think I am being petty, but last Friday my 'baby' turned 18 years (wow, how fast those years ago)....................and not one of toe buggers that made those promises all those years ago bothered to wish him a happy birthday.................or drop a card in the post!!!:frown:

Ive been guilty of that.I was the best thing since sliced bread when birthday/xmas presents represented a load of cash,but when that stopped i didnt hold the same appeal.

Ah, now that's a very good point to make donna!

Not saying that that is the issue here.

Maybe they just plain forgot, especially if they live in the UK. I'd say nothing, then mention it the next time they ask how everyone is etc.

The acknowlegement of help, support, things given and deeds done in the form of a simple "Thank you" is indeed important. Failure to do so makes the giver feel disillusioned and taken for granted.

"Please" and "Thank you" are perfect examples of those things in life that are both great and free. :cool:

PS: I'm not suggesting that this is the cause of the OP's issue.

Are you religious and do you take your faith seriously?

If yes, then it’s a damn shame that your son’s God parents don’t participate in their role and respect your beliefs.

If no, then perhaps they feel the whole God parenting thing is a sham and won’t subscribe to it.

We've each got a god-child. Both are in their twenties now. They don't know each other - from different sides of the family. One we send birthday card and gift and he always sends a "thank you" email. The other one never sends a "thank you". I've stopped sending that one anything since she turned 21.

We also have two nephews (brothers). Also in their twenties now. One sends "thank you" emails for birthday and Christmas gifts and also drops us the odd email during the year to tell us what he is up to (and we always write back).- We haven't heard from his brother for two years now and have decided from now on not to send the brother anything for birthdays and Christmas.

It's a two-way street and once they are "adults" the ought to know that.

There's no such thing as god, ergo there's no such thing as a godparent.

I sent my godson a card and money till he turned 18- I just send a card now as he is a grown up soldier earning his own wages. Mind you this year it will be late as I should have sent it yesterday but I'm trying to move house and things are very hectic....sitting waiting for that phone call to say it's mine atm. Biting nails as it is getting on.

My 2 youngest had a massive brawl over their godparents, one GP has since became stinking rich and famous, I couldnt even remember which kid he was GP to:lol:, finally we found baptism certificates and lets just say an all in brawl broke out after they had a huge discussion how how much money one might inherit:rofl:

I disagree - a lot of people get their children baptised without any thought of the religious consequences - I am a god mother to a few children in fact I can't even remember who some of them are!!! At the time I said that I wasn't religious but they still wanted me so I did it

Not neccessarily. Alot of people get their kids Baptised to get into certain schools and no other reason. It's rife here in Australia. :(

I wasnt looking for him getting a pile of dosh for his birthday...................just a bleeden card....................and no he is not a horrible kid, he's bloody great aint that right Perthforme!!

Unfortunately sj oldfield, you can't change people. I know it's put your nose out of joint because they can't be bothered to send a card but I wouldn't take it personally. As long as you and your kids are doing the right thing, then that's all that matters. Stuff the rest.

I'd concerntrate on those who care for you, right here and right now. Cut your loses and embrace the good people you have around you. :)

I know lot's of people who do that too.

At my wife's church they assign no specific pair of God parents. The children (and sometimes adults too) are dedicated in front of everyone to Christianity and the other church goers are asked to support and encourage the children and parents (or adults) to remain on the correct path. IMOHO, the best God parents are those who clothe, feed, raise and shelter the children.

SJ Oldfield, try not to feel upset/angry or to take it personal. Everyone's human and we're all forgetful sometimes. Just forgive. :)

I think the whole point of this thread is that SJ Oldfield is obviously a 'card person' (like myself) and it really hurts if someone doesn't send a card (i know, it's daft) - but especially if you send cards to everyone and don't receive any back, really gets on my wick that does.

Yeah that's what pushed me over the line :)

Am also guilty of being a godparent to another niece last weekend - me who is more likely to actively encourage her away from religion then encourage her into it.

It's very much a British thing. As is taking exception to people who fail to say please, thankyou, sorry and excuse me when they should.

I do think cards are a dying tradition.A bit like xmas cards,how many do you get or send now compared to a few years ago.I know i used to send almost 200,now im lucky if i send 40/50
Christ my kids are 10 and 12 and dont get cards from my brother in Spain and hes their only uncle

Yeah i agree with that, though i love receiving cards from people, just the simple fact that they took the time to sit down and write the thing out to me.

I dont really give a shite about cards,give me a letter any day.
However i do not see the point in sending birthday/xmas cards with to%^&
From#$%.Whats the point especially if you havent caught up in a while.Last year i wrote individual messages in each card for all my rellies and friends,not that they did the same.No more i say

I used to send cards to everyone on the planet years ago, but now it's narrowed down to close family members that actually take the time to send them back to me!

I do agree, the whole 'to and from' business is stupid really. What's the point anymore, years ago when there was no internet or whatever, then yes all fine and good, but now ecards are much easier!
