And your commute?

I only ask because every time I drive to the Swan Valley I think - I could live here....but then the usual ghosts re-appear - schools, commute etc etc

St Stephens, Carramar about 30 minutes drive. I'd drop the kids off on my way to work which would take about 1:15 each way - a pain, yes but not as painful as the stop start traffic on the M25 every day like I had to endure in England.

Get yourself a small car for commuting as well. Fuel costs are going to be the bane of our lives for the forseeable future.

I'm going to get a Yaris or something like it.

Good choice. I'm looking at getting an ultra economical (under 5l/100km) car for commuting.

Our kids go to school about 15 mins drive away, one thing we didnt bargain for was how hard it would make for the kids socially.

Kids in the estates near the school always have hundreds! of other kids out and about. To see their mates ours need to cycle 10 klms+ each way, not too bad in winter, they are very fit now:D, but in summer  that is simply impossible.

Just check where you might buy has a quota of kids going to the school, or other local kids they might get to know, we were a bit shocked to find kids were few and far between as where we live wasnt close to schools so it appealed less to families and more to professionals, wealthy old farts, etc.

Good point, we saw quite a few kids/homes where kids obviously lived when we went for a rekkie on Sunday.

Have you got your kids names down there? I know to get my daughter into year 8 in 2011 I should have had her name down since 2005.

Some light at the end of the tunnel. My wife went to visit a new friend who lives in Chittering Valley and guess what? It looks like she has fallen in love with the area.

We drove up there yesterday to look at 5 acre blocks, most properties there have paddocks, horses, views. It's lovely.

It looks like my wife's "plan B" might be a move to Chittering - that will suit me fine, I'd love to get out of Legoland and go rural :).

I really don't need all the stress I've been through lately though.

oo its beautiful up there :) good luck with plan B

The kids went on the list in June 2004. I neglected to complete the paperwork in time to get an offer for my boy for yr 7 2010 and he's on the waiting list but the girls should be fine for yr 7 2011. The boy will go to the top of the list once they (hopefully) get an offer next year.

Is this private or public school? My boy is 2, should I be thinking of this already?

Private, and yes. If you were in Perth you'd already be too late to get your boy into St Stephen's in Duncraig, at any year.
